We’re proud to spotlight a complex project completed in April that demanded innovation, precision, and quick thinking. Our team was tasked with performing stress analysis and repairs on a remote section of a major pipeline, overcoming a variety of technical and logistical challenges. Key aspects of the project included: ???Constructing winter access and an ice bridge over a river ???Brushing, mulching, and grading a steep slope for safe access and excavation ???Completing?excavation while simultaneously conducting?a survey to assess and monitor?stress ???Performing critical repairs, including recontouring the pipeline ???Supporting advanced repair techniques,?including?Petro Sleeve and Armour Wrap installations ???Backfilling and compacting materials to prevent future pipeline stress ???Installing slope indicators for ongoing stress monitoring ? ????????? ??????????????????:?The remote location allowed ground access only from December to April, placing pressure on the project team to meet the deadline. Through the expert leadership of our Project Managers and the team's adaptability, we completed the work on time, ensuring the pipeline’s long-term stability and integrity. ? It is with great satisfaction that I reflect on my successful long-term placement at Rest and Be Thankful, where I played a key role in monitoring a complex landslide and ensuring the safety of the public. Throughout my tenure, I worked hard mitigating risks and enhancing infrastructure resilience, particularly through the supervision of the construction of the 3B catchpit. Key Responsibilities and Achievements: ? Landslide Monitoring: Continuously monitored the dynamics of a complex landslide, employing a variety of technologies and analytical techniques to assess risks and develop proactive measures for public safety. ? Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Conducted thorough risk assessments to identify potential hazards associated with the landslide, collaborating closely with the client to implement effective mitigation strategies and emergency response plans. ? Supervision of 3B Catchpit Construction: Provided supervision for the construction of the 3B catchpit, overseeing numerous phases of the project to ensure adherence to quality standards, safety protocols, and timelines. This catchpit significantly bolstered the resilience of the A83 road against landslide impacts, safeguarding critical transportation infrastructure and enhancing community resilience. ? Client Collaboration: Fostered strong partnerships with government agencies, engineering firms, and local communities, facilitating transparent communication and cooperation to address challenges and achieve shared objectives. ? Continuous Improvement: Proactively sought opportunities for process optimization and innovation, implementing best practices and lessons learned to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness in landslide monitoring and infrastructure development. Conclusion: My tenure at Rest and Be Thankful has been a rewarding journey marked by significant contributions to public safety and infrastructure resilience. I want to thank the teams at West Groundworks Ltd and Abtech (UK) Ltd for their proactive and quick response to an issue we found on site. Also to Specialist Cutting Services Ltd and @JBDimondDrilling for coming out to site at such short notice and getting quotes in. Unfortunately there had to be only one winner but I do appreciate then fantastic response. The issue faced was discovering that the existing foundation were at least twice the size than as shown on the drawings with section 2000mm wide rather than the 600mm needed. This impacted heavily on the width of the basement being build and the immediate need to cut away the excess mass concrete. Only 96 hours after we identified the problem we were stitch drilling one site. The project contingency found may have been spent but we are back on track with very little delay. One of the most important things about managing any project is the ability to manage change quickly and effectively. Many changes will not even be known risks that you can have mitigations ready for, those are the easy ones to deal with. Here the main driver was availability of the solution followed by cost and impact on other work. Thankfully having proactive contractors willing to find the win win we have a solution that allows both contractors to be working safely together on site with little impact on time. I actually think the solutions we have found will save us time.
