Contrast Studio is almost 1 year old. It’s a productized design service. The more I work with this model the more I realize it’s better for early-stage companies than hiring. Besides being cheaper, it helps maintain focus. Here’s why. With full-time employees, startups often don’t have enough work to fill their capacity week after week for an entire year. That’s money lost for the company and managers feel pressured to fill in the gaps with BS work (vision projects, explorations, pointless iterations, projects that won’t be developed for months, etc.) That’s just treading water. That drains designers of creative energy. Why not just pause work? With a full-time hire, they’re locked in. It’s all or nothing. 100mph or 0. That doesn’t make sense. With a productized service clients know they are buying outcomes, not time. They understand my time is limited and valuable. That pushes them to focus only on what matters and frees up my time to help other clients with impactful projects instead of pretending to work. PS: don’t get me started on how much time wasting goes on in big companies… so much money wasted. #productivity

5 things I learned hiring for game studios in 2024. After interviewing 100's of candidates this year. The old playbook: - Fancy gym memberships - Stocked beer fridges - Board game libraries Look good on the surface.. But not "essential". 5 things employees care for: 1. Psychological safety Employees don’t just want to survive at work,they want to thrive in a safe and? supportive environment. 2. True Flexible working Harmony between work and life isn't a luxury, it’s a necessity 3. Transparent communication from leadership. Having an open book management team instills culture. 4. Career growth and development? People invest in companies that invest in them. 5. The human touch Their voice to be heard. Their impact to be visible. Culture isn't about perks.
