?????? --- #Innovation #Technology #Video?---???????? GiGadgets: ?????????????????????????? ??????????-???? ?????????????? ???????? ?????? ?????????????????????? ??????! ???????????????? New technology from The Ocean Cleanup helps prevent plastic contamination in some of the most highest polluted rivers on earth, including Guatemala and the Gulf of Honduras. ?????????????? ???The connected Rio Motagua basin alone is believed to be contributing?around 2%?of global plastic pollution to the world's oceans. ???A large percentage of the waste comes from Guatemala City, the capital and a city of?around 1 million?people, but that has been reported as?over 3 million people?for its metropolitan area, based on United Nations data. ???"With it, we have since prevented over [22,000,000 pounds] of trash from flowing to the Gulf of Honduras," The Ocean Cleanup website?states. "However, our job is not done yet." ???Still, The Ocean Cleanup estimates it has removed?60-70% of the pollution. Link ==> https://lnkd.in/e3CMYPDW Enjoy, T. Scott Clendaniel

Did you know that at the SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre, we’re turning everyday waste into meaningful action? ? Introducing our Rubbish Monster, a fun, eco-friendly champion on a mission to collect and recycle plastic bottle tops! So far, we’ve kept an impressive 5000 bottle tops (approx) from entering landfills and polluting our precious coastline. Why does it matter?? Plastic pollution harms marine life through ingestion, entanglement, and habitat destruction, leading to significant biodiversity loss and economic impact. By recycling, we’re helping prevent these issues, ensuring a safer environment for our oceans. Our goal? To collect 30,000 bottle tops and transform them into sustainable creations, partnering with Quay Clean, Cleanaway, artwork by kids, and gamifying incentives to collect. Every bottle top counts; join us in making waves for a cleaner, greener seaside!??? Also, watch out for how we use them in the future. #OceanCleanupInterceptor: Protecting Our Oceans and #Planet The Ocean Cleanup Interceptor is an innovative technology designed to tackle the critical issue of plastic pollution in our waterways. This autonomous system is engineered to prevent plastic debris from reaching our oceans by capturing it at the source—rivers. With the majority of ocean plastic originating from river systems, the Interceptor presents a proactive solution to mitigate this environmental crisis. How It Works: The Interceptor is strategically placed in rivers to efficiently collect floating plastic waste. Powered by #solarenergy, it uses a barrier to guide debris towards the conveyor belt system, which then transfers the waste into onboard dumpsters. Once full, these dumpsters are offloaded and the collected waste is recycled or responsibly disposed of. This continuous, automated process ensures minimal human intervention and maximizes efficiency. #EnvironmentalImpact: By intercepting plastic before it reaches the ocean, this technology significantly reduces the amount of marine debris, protecting marine life and ecosystems. The reduction of ocean plastic helps preserve biodiversity, supports fisheries, and maintains the health of coral reefs and other vital habitats. Broader Implications: The deployment of the Ocean Cleanup Interceptor contributes to global sustainability efforts. It aids in achieving several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 14 (Life Below Water) and SDG 13 (Climate Action). Cleaner oceans also mean healthier planetary systems, as they play a crucial role in regulating the Earth’s climate. #Community and Economic Benefits: Besides environmental benefits, the Interceptor creates opportunities for local communities through job creation in waste management and recycling sectors. It also raises awareness about the importance of river and ocean health, encouraging community engagement and education on sustainable practices. The Ocean Cleanup Interceptor is a vital technology in our fight against plastic pollution. By protecting rivers and oceans, it helps safeguard the planet for future generations, ensuring that marine ecosystems thrive and the natural beauty of our world is preserved. #OceanCleanup #PlasticPollution #SustainableTechnology #CleanRivers #SaveOurOceans #EcoInnovation #MarineConservation #ClimateAction #Sustainability #ProtectOurPlanet
