Listened to a great chat today between Ari Ashe and Samantha Jones on Meet Me for Coffee ? with conversations around the Baltimore Port amid the tragic collapse of the bridge. If you missed it, here are my 3 main takeaways from the talk ? ?? Although it is still too early to tell, Ari and Sam estimated that it will take many months for the Port of Baltimore to get back up and running full speed. Many shippers will look to divert cargo to the Port of Norfolk and the Port of New York and New Jersey for the time being. Look for increased volumes in those areas in the coming months ? Hazmat Drivers are the most impacted OTR drivers since they are unable to use the tunnels that will act as detours for the other drivers on the road. They will have to utilize other bridges around Baltimore, as hazmat drivers cannot drive through tunnels while in transit with hazardous material ?? The Automotive industry will be the most impacted industry due to the Port of Baltimore being largest Ro-Ro port on the east coast. Look for these Ro-Ro shipments to be diverted to the Ports in Philadelphia, Savannah, Jacksonville and Charleston for the next few months.
