Great Idea! Loneliness is a big problem in our communities. Here is another option to consider, public space seating. Seating in public spaces goes beyond basic comfort. Benches become hubs for social interaction, relaxation, and simply enjoying the outdoors. They can combat social isolation, especially for older adults, by providing places to gather and connect. Public spaces should be inclusive. A lack of seating creates barriers for those with mobility limitations. Prioritizing seating ensures everyone can participate in community life, regardless of age or ability. COA offers a turnkey program to provide cost-free and maintenance-free ADA-compliant benches, that are not just for bus stops. This is a chance to make a real difference in the lives of your neighbors. Our informative 15-minute presentation will provide all the details about our program. Parks, Recreation, and Tourism employees saw a need to address loneliness post-pandemic in the community, and responded with an opening move: Pick Up Chess. It's gaining ground with all ages, from elementary students to retirees. Residents who work asked for weekend hours. Our George Owens Nature Center enthusiastically responded, now offering residents a chance to a friendly game on Thursday afternoons and once a month on Saturdays. It's just another way the City of Independence is serving its residents - one of whom could be the next Grandmaster. https://lnkd.in/gy_GfNkd

8th in our Series of Assisted Living Questions: Many assisted living communities provide a wide range of social and recreational activities, though the specific offerings can vary. These activities might include fitness classes, arts and crafts, music sessions, game nights, and group outings, all designed to keep residents active, engaged, and socially connected. Each community tailors its activities to suit the interests and needs of its residents, so it’s always a good idea to ask about the specific programs available to ensure they match what you're looking for. #CoralSeriorCareConsultants #AssistedLivingLife #SeniorActivities #ActiveAging #SeniorWellness #EngagedLiving #CommunityLife #StayActive #SocialSeniors #SeniorFun #HealthyAging #VibrantLiving #SeniorRecreation #CreativeAging #ConnectedCommunity #LifeInAssistedLiving

??♂??? Embracing challenges isn't just about personal growth—it's integral to professional development too! Our President, Ron Pohl, recently took on his first road bike race, the Tour de Scottsdale, alongside colleague Vojtek Karpuk. The experience wasn't just about the physical feat—it taught Ron valuable lessons applicable to the business world. Stepping outside our comfort zone fosters creativity, resilience, and a sense of community—all vital for success in the workplace. So, as we celebrate "Move More Month," let's remember: embracing new challenges isn't just good for the body, it's great for business too! ???? #WelcomeToOurWorld #MoveMoreMonth #ProfessionalGrowth #ChallengeYourself #BusinessSuccess
On Saturday, my friend and colleague, Vojtek Karpuk, and I participated in my first road bike race, Tour de Scottsdale. Thousands of talented cyclists from across North America gathered in Scottsdale to bike 100 kilometers (62 miles). The weather was perfect, the scenery was breathtaking, and the course was challenging. I am incredibly grateful for the experience. ? I believe it is important to constantly challenge ourselves and try new?activities as they sharpen the body and mind. I find it fulfilling to motivate and encourage others to seek out new challenges. Additionally, setting new goals and challenges outside of work helps me think differently at work. Doing so allows me to connect and find community with others, generate new ideas, build stamina, prepare for the week(s) ahead, and so much more. Remember, there's no time to pick up a new activity and challenge yourself like the present.

On of my favorite movies scenes is when Al Pacino, playing Coach Tony D’Amato, gives a speech to the players on the football team that he is coaching. In the speech, you can tell how passionate Al Pacino is but it's the words that inspire me more than the look on his face. In the middle of the speech he says, "Because in either game, life or football, the margin for error is so small. I mean, one half a step too late or too early and you don’t quite make it. One half second too slow, too fast and you don’t quite catch it.?The inches we need are everywhere around us.?They’re in every break of the game, every minute, every second." I think about those inches around me as I navigate Run Tri Bike forward with Aum Gandhi (He/Him) and Lori Hauck, MBA, CPA. Our conversations are about what has happened, what is happening and what we want to happen. We evaluate those inches to see where we can gain ground. Last year, we found the inches by leaning into being The Voice of the Everyday Athlete. This year, we are finding those inches by launching new initiatives to continue to grow our community. We do this because we believe in our vision and mission which is to prove that there is a spot at the starting line for everybody and every body. The inches are all around us.....we just have to have the courage to find them and take advantage of them. Where are your inches? Have you looked for them and taken advantage of them? How can I help you find those inches?
