My graditude journey. As I look back over the past year, I’m reminded of the importance of showing up and holding myself accountable for my own growth. Facing myself hasn’t always been easy—leaning into fear, learning from failures, and letting go of insecurities. But through it all, I’ve learned how powerful it is to feel good in my own skin and truly trust myself. Now, I know that whatever I set out to do, I am capable. Every connection I make, I know I’m worthy of someone’s time and energy. But getting here hasn’t been a simple journey. Building self-love and self-trust is hard work. It takes courage to confront insecurities and commit to nurturing yourself. It’s easy to use insecurity as an excuse, but I’ve learned that self-love is the real recipe for success. When Kirstie Wishart, owner of Starfish Store, accepted a request for work experience from Madison Sims, it sparked new growth for her business and changed a young woman’s life.? ? Work experience was just the beginning for?Madison, who has a mild intellectual disability and autism. She went on to become a full-time employee, studied with WEA Illawarra and won an award from Community Colleges Australia.??? ? “I call it a five-win thing,” Kirstie says. “Madison wins, her family wins, our business wins, our staff win and our community wins.? Everyone benefits.”? ?? Madison and Kirstie are now encouraging other employers to consider inclusive hiring.? ?? “Working at Starfish has improved my mental health, given me purpose, and built my confidence to speak with new people," Madison shares.? ?? “If more employers took a chance with people like me, just as Kirstie did, we would live in a much more inclusive society."? ?
