Montana State University-Northern’s College of Health Sciences has been awarded a $17,800 grant from Accelerate Montana to provide free Advanced Stroke Life Support (ASLS?) training to 40-50 healthcare professionals across Montana, with a focus on rural communities along the Hi-Line. “This initiative is more than just a training program—it’s a direct investment in the health and safety of our communities,” said Dr. Tiffany Vickers, dean of Northern’s College of Health Sciences. This innovative program lets high school students earn college credits while gaining hands-on hospital experience - at zero cost. It was a privilege to present at the American Public Health Association (APHA) 2024 Annual Meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota! Our poster, titled "Advancing One Health Education: Integrating Multidisciplinary Perspectives in Residency Programs," highlights how we can unite diverse disciplines in training programs to create a stronger, collaborative approach to health—one that addresses the vital intersections of human, animal, and environmental health. This experience aligns perfectly with International One Health Day, celebrated on November 3rd. One Health is more than an approach; it’s essential for preparing health professionals to tackle current and emerging health challenges. Engaging with leading experts at APHA was invaluable, and I’m eager to share insights and discussions from these encounters. I’m also grateful for the unlimited support of our program director, Dr. Iheb Bougmiza, and the valuable guidance of Dr. Syed Himatt. While we have many achievements to celebrate in advancing One Health education, we must also recognize the challenges in implementing such a multidisciplinary approach. Integrating diverse perspectives into residency training involves overcoming barriers in curriculum design, fostering interprofessional collaboration, and ensuring sustained engagement across specialties.
