New privacy laws have been enacted in Delaware, Iowa, Nebraska, New Hampshire, and New Jersey. ? Businesses should be prepared to take necessary steps to avoid non-compliance. ? For starters, they need to identify whether they are storing, processing or transmitting the protected data and prioritize the implementation of adequate controls to those processes in compliance with the privacy laws.?The focus should be on the data rather than the systems.?The key is having visibility into where the data flows.? Follow the data. ? In November, Nebraska governor Jim Pillen signed the latest in a string of state-specific privacy laws across the country. The Nebraska Data Privacy Act (NEDPA)is unique in that there is very little time to react as the goes into effect on January 1, 2025. NEDPA is also an outlier in that it does not set applicability thresholds around revenue, volume of data, or number of state residents served. https://lnkd.in/eNQJhRuq #privacy #nedpa
