It's not every day you get to see two women you admire have a candid vulnerable conversation about the intricacies of being a fierce female leader in the v-suite. Fierce Labs Live and Tara Meadors Wilson and team, you did it again! Another inspiring event in the books! During this event, we heard from an amazing lineup of women leaders and had indepth discussions about a myriad of topics. Here are some of my favorite quotes and take-aways "You are who you think you are!" Ivonne Kinser You won't always get validation from those you want it from most and that's okay. Mai Zazueta Give yourself permission to take up space. Be so good they won't forget you. 1,2,3 Go Emily Jaenson As a working mother you have to build your tribe and take time to do the things you need to do just for yourself or for your business. Marissa C. Don't be afraid to pivot and create a position to fill the need of an organization. Remember the other skills and talents you possess when transitioning into the next phase or starting a new career. Jasmine Thomas Julee Gracey provided tools to destroy limiting beliefs. I actually have more time than I think I have. Gillea Allison shared her story of growing the family business and learning how to show up as her authentic self. (I'm still laughing about the smart glasses).

I got an email proclaiming that I'm a finalist for 'The Top 50 Women Chief?Experience?Officers of 2024'... which was flattering at 1st glance. In order to accept & claim this recognition I just need to become a member of the org. (which is $500 year with very light weight member benefits) That made it feel more like a pay to play vanity award then a legitimate one... when they followed up I said as much & they tried to assure me that they get a lot of applicants & do a lot of research. I don't know how to feel about it. I guess I am cynical to assume the worst of this org (which I won't name) which might actually be about women's empowerment & recognition. ----> Have you ever been offered something that felt like a shady money grab but appealed to your ego? Have you ever joined a membership with big promises that delivered nearly no value whatsoever? Do you think I should take the award? (now I have nowhere to proudly post about it after shooting holes in it's premise on the one platform that would make sense to post it on) Do you think I am being jaded & cynical or just seeing through a flimsy business model?

“To live without reflection for so long might make you wonder if you even truly exist.” -Beyonce This is a quote that I revisit often. I know this quote to be a fact. For the past couple of years, I’ve asked thousands of women entrepreneurs around the globe: “What is your greatest business challenge as it pertains to growing your business as a corporate consultant?” And were the majority of their answers things like… access to capital, strategy or revenue? NO. The overwhelming answer? Confidence. This answer always bewilders me because the women in our community often have: ? decades of experience ? advanced degrees and a laundry list of accolades. So, I dig deeper… “What more do you need to be confident?” And the root is always: Representation. They tell me, “I would be more confident if I saw someone like me doing the thing that I aspire to achieve.” On a weekly basis, I get a request that sounds like: “Please show me another woman who is serving corporate clients doing “x”.” These women have gone so long without seeing their own reflection- that they question if possibilities even exist. This is why I’m committed to spotlighting the many voices & stories of the women in our community. It’s why I’m committed to spotlighting leaders within organizations that value supplier diversity and small businesses. It’s why YOU must take up space, Queen. ... someone is looking out in this world, seeking your example. It’s why organizations must rethink the future of their supplier diversity programs and initiatives, if they truly want to connect with small businesses & women-owned firms in this digital, ever-evolving world. It’s why I live by Sarah Jakes Roberts’ phrase, “I only have room for belief.” Because even when I can’t see my own reflection, I have decided that I will BE the change I seek. And what inspires me most, are the thousands of women in our community who have decided the very same. If you can see it … You can seize it. "[She] who looks outside, dreams... It's truly inspiring to witness the remarkable rise of women leaders making a significant impact in family businesses not only in the UK, but around the world. President, CEO, Founder, Executive, PhD, Visionary, Owner, Leader, Diverse Business Advocate… These are just a few of the words that describe this impressive group of women representing the Women's Business Enterprise Council Pacific (WBEC Pacific), Women's Business Enterprise Council West (WBEC-West), HCC - Hispanic Contractors of Colorado, City and County of Denver, McKinstry and Q&A Consulting. Did you know there are more than 14 million women-owned businesses in the U.S., employing nearly 12.2 million people and generating $2.7 trillion in revenue? Women-owned businesses make up 39.1% of all U.S. businesses – yet there is still significant disparity in revenue and capital between these business and others. This week Fortune Magazine announced their annual list of Fortune 500 companies. For the first time in 6 years the number of women was flat year over year at 10.4%. How disappointing. Since the 80's I would look at the number of women who were CEO's of these companies as a proxy for progress for women in corporate America. In the 80's and 90's, like many of us, being a CEO of a Fortune 500 company seemed sadly out of reach. In fact there was consistently only one name through those years, the iconic Katherine Graham, who headed the Washington Post after the tragic death of her husband. However, in the late 90's that started to change when the women who entered the workplace in the 70's after the second wave of the women's movement, began to reach the top. Women like Jill Barad, Mattel; @Meg Whitman, Ebay and HP; @Carly Fiorina, HP; Pat Russo, Lucent; Andrea Jung, Avon; Anne Mulcahy and Ursula Burns, Xerox and now there have been over 100. When I joined Catalyst Inc. in 2018, 4.8% of the Fortune 500 were women. In 2023 10.4% were women. We were proud of that significant progress; it was steadily increasing and doubled in 5 years. We were hopeful that it would continue unabated until it became normative to be a women CEO. Now 2024 was flat and we sadly lost one of our two black women (though Toni Townes-Whitley followed another women CEO @Nassic Keene at SAIC). We have so many great women leaders like Marillyn Hewson, Lockheed Martin, Cathy Engelbert, Deloitte and Julie Sweet, Accenture who I had the honor to work with closely as my board chairs at Catalyst. We cannot let this pause become a trend. We have so many qualified women leaders today. Today, women make up over 30% of boards and over 25% of senior management. In my next chapter I am dedicating my efforts to continue to break this glass ceiling and make it not newsworthy for women to lead major companies so that the women of 2030 will not feel like I did in the 80's. #womenceos #womensleadership

Reflecting on my own tenure in a c-suite role over the past five years, it's jarring to realize that in 2024, only 22% of c-suite positions are occupied by women. Study after study consistently highlights the advantages of having women in top management positions. From heightened profitability to elevated corporate responsibility to unparalleled customer experiences, the benefits are undeniable; and beyond the tangible business gains, there exists a profound moral imperative to ensure diversity in these pivotal leadership roles. And yet, the S&P predicts we'll get to 50% no sooner than 2030. I'm optimistic that we will surpass this milestone well before then.
