For this week’s #PhotogenicFriday ?? how ‘bout a little “California Dreamin…” With its 20th Anniversary this year, the Path 15 high voltage line stands as a testament to responding to swift, rising demand in energy consumption and solving those challenges in an expedient fashion. Located throughout the #California Central Valley, the Path 15 project introduced an 84-mile, 500-kilovolt transmission line to alleviate power congestion in the Golden State, which also helped WAPA’s Sierra Nevada region with better managing its customer power needs. After 3 years of evaluation and construction, the line was fully energized in the Autumn of 2004. Part of the line, featured here, shows the lattice structures of the Path 15 line running northwest along I-5 near Los Banos and the San Luis Reservoir. Via a partnership with Idaho Power, Avista Corporation is set to receive approximately $85 million in federal funding provided by the Department of Energy (DOE). The grant awarded stems from the DOE’s Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnerships (GRIP) program. Via the $85 million grant, Avista and Idaho Power will work towards the reconstruction of the Lolo-Oxbow 230-kV transmission line. The existing line runs from the Oxbow Dam, along the Oregon- Idaho border, to an endpoint located in Lewiston, Idaho. In addition to rebuilding the existing line, the project further involves the construction of the proposed Pallette Junction substation, operated by Idaho Power. The following project is the second transmission project selected under the GRIP Program. Overall, the rebuild transmission project will aim to reduce potential line outages; strengthen the existing electrical grid by improving the existing infrastructure; provide an additional energy capacity of 635 megawatts of electric power; provide economic benefits to the surrounding communities; and enhance the resiliency of the transmission lines against wildfires. #IdahoPower #Avista #DOE #TransmissionLines #Substations #ElectricPower #Grant #ElectricGrid #Resiliency #Infrastructure #MAPSearch #ENvision
