What does the UK government mean by ‘far right’? Today, the UK government labels all those who are taking part in the riots as ‘far right’. Some of them I guess, most of them are actually ‘far right’, although I think some of them actually haven’t even really thought out any ideologies. They’re doing it because that’s what they feel like. I agree with Hans. The politics of naming and framing are central to these issues. Political provocations to destabilise the new government are as credible as emotional reactions to a (mis-attributed) murder. We need to: 1) examine how these events have been framed and labelled, what words are appropriate to describe and discuss them from an interdisciplinary perspective; 2) reflect on the available evidence about the actors, the gaps in knowledge about them, the mechanisms of organisation and their goals; 3) examine the structures of communication: social media, mainstream media etc. and their scales: local, regional, national and international and their impact on the new Labour government and its reputation globally. Ukrainian human rights defenders held a series of advocacy meetings with representatives of European institutions and civil society in the Netherlands and Belgium with the support of the @Netherlands Helsinki Committee . ZMINA was represented by analyst and war crimes documentarian Borys Petruniok. HRDs met with government officials and parliamentarians in The Hague, representatives of Dutch civil society, the EU’s Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations, as well as with Belgium-based NGOs. They discussed, among other things, cases of arbitrary detention and torture of civilians in the occupied territories, and the mental dimension of the Russian war against Ukraine. ?? “We cannot and should not consider the war crimes committed by the Russian military against Ukrainian civilians as something isolated or something that concerns only specific units. The Russian Federation uses arbitrary detention, abduction and torture of civilians as a tool to achieve long-term political goals. In particular, to intimidate the population, destroy grassroots social ties in communities, and build “occupation administrations”. It's disheartening to see a 17-year-old boy being subjected to a 7-day remand, an act that exemplifies the hypocrisy within our democratic system. This decision by the police to arrest a minor, compounded by a judge approving such a prolonged remand, stands in stark violation of both constitutional protections and the principles of the Children Act. This raises serious questions about our government policies and the role of our judicial system. What is the purpose of having a Department of Justice, and why do we study law, if justice itself seems to be compromised?
