All the world’s a country’ and, everywhere, there is a need to communicate better and more about all the positive aspects of fish consumption. This need was highlighted in Spain during the 24th AECOC Seafood Congress. During the event it emerged that, throughout the Iberian Peninsula, demand for fresh fish and seafood has fallen significantly, with a?1.7% decrease in the last year. This scenario revealed the need to identify an effective communication strategy to reverse the negative trend and?promote the benefits of fish consumption. According to data presented by the consultancy firm NIQ, 814 million kg of fresh fish and seafood will be consumed in Spain in 2023, with fresh fish accounting for 70% of the total volume invoiced by the sector. The main consumption categories include crustaceans, salmon, sardines, anchovies and cephalopods. Despite the general decline, consumption of salmon, cod and sea bass increased by 1.1% and 0.6% respectively. #seafood #BlueEconomy #blutransformation #spain

?? Seasonal seafood spotlight: Atlantic bluefin tuna! ?? It is still prime season for Atlantic bluefin caught in the Gulf of Maine. These fish have been feeding all summer and they will be bursting with flavor this time of year. They’ll likely be caught well into the fall season, so you still have time to enjoy this local delicacy! We know that eating sustainably can feel overwhelming, especially when it comes to seafood. Atlantic bluefin tuna can be a particular source of confusion, with contradicting and outdated reports surrounding its sustainability. However, of the three species of bluefin tuna (Pacific, Southern, and Atlantic) Atlantic bluefin tuna are the only species found in the Gulf of Maine, and they also happen to be the most sustainably harvested bluefin tuna fishery in the world. Pollock, a white fish with many unknown properties for consumers, is low in fat and?nutritious. All big frozen sellers, except tilapia, increased in volume in the first quarter of 2024.?Salmon and Pollock showed strong growth. To be able to fully regenerate, fish need to reproduce cells and recruit cells quickly to cover wounds. “That is a real advantage for us. It means we can get more activated cells faster.
