GPS interference is affecting a growing number of transatlantic flights in the world's busiest oceanic airspace. My reporting finds that this has already been happening for up to nine months, with Canada's air traffic control organization reporting up to a dozen affected flights each day. My New Scientist story looks at how GPS jamming and spoofing impacts have spread beyond war zones - but also considers what GPS alternatives may provide backup options. One of the more intriguing options is a quantum magnetometer developed by SandboxAQ that has been tested by the US Air Force, Airbus and Boeing. I also touch upon how some countries have been implementing a "resilience triad" that uses ground-based networks to complement global navigation satellite systems. (Hint: Not the United States.)
