We can proactively shape our military leadership for the better. In 1941, General Marshall led a major restructuring of the military's leadership. Hundreds of officers were retired or discharged to bring in new and dynamic perspectives. The initiative was controversial, but aimed to improve the army's effectiveness. We must improve our leadership by identifying and promoting capable individuals with skills and innovative vision for modern warfare. These high-potential officers should not have to wait for the traditional command rotation; their talents are needed now more than ever. If we hesitate, our adversaries may capitalize on our stagnation, forcing us into a reactive stance.

This was my absolute favorite panel of the entire event. Seeing two of my former wing commanders on stage, speaking so resolutely toward the needs of our nation, toward a nation that my own children will be proud to grow up in, brought hope and joy to my heart. I also deeply resonated with General Mike Minihan's remarks: "If we don't get connectivity correct, then we are condemned to operate that airplane in the same way our grandfathers did, in the 50s, 60s, and 70s." --and-- "Amateurs study tactics. Professionals study logistics. Victors study maneuver!" --and-- "The readiness that underpins deterrence is the same readiness that underpins decisive victory." --and-- "Airmen fill the gap between what they have and what they need. They do that with tenacity...they do that with courage...they do that with professionalism...they do that with passion!" Such a feast of motivation and truth. I also love watching Airmen close that gap, and I'm grateful to still be in a position to help and contribute to their efforts. I love my chosen career of innovation. The path between idea and innovation is one of maneuver, with innovators creating the conditions for great ideas to become reality, in advance of their time of need. Because...innovation IS readiness and innovation underpins decisive victory. #victorsstudymaneuver Productable

Military leader. Space enterprise expert. Multi-domain warfighter. Guardian. (Views are my own) #OnGuard!
As does iron sharpen iron, Space sharpens Joint! Space is more than a fixed position of advantage to be leveraged ... it is the fine-pointed edge of our asymmetric lethality. We will outthink, outpace, and overmatch any opponent through our overwhelming options. #OnGuard #SpaceMindedness #NeverADayWithoutSpace
Gen. Stephen Whiting, #USSPACECOM commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Not For Profit leader passionate about advocating for participation in & funding for causes that shape communities.
Leadership is About Serving. Everyone is a servant to someone in the organization. Several examples prove the point: CEOs serve the stakeholders; military members serve the public liberty from tyranny; supervisors serve their department leads and those in their charge; the President and Congress serve their constituents; and so on. Military leadership is often misunderstood in the civilian sector, leading to ineffective leadership by transitioning soldiers. Empathy and care are key qualities of successful leaders. If you're transitioning to the civilian sector, keep in mind: - Leadership isn't about telling people what to do. It's about enabling individuals and yourself. - Listen to people and their experiences. - Represent the organization well. You have the opportunity to be a great ambassador of what you learned in the military. Remember, successful leadership isn't just about authority - it's about empathy, care, and enabling those around you to succeed. As a transitioning soldier, you have the opportunity to bring valuable skills and experiences to the civilian sector. By keeping these key qualities of successful military leadership in mind, you can make a positive impact and represent your organization well. #leadership #Army #navy #airforce #marines #coastguard

Retired Marine and former Corporate leader. I tell stories of my corporate life to help others better understand the true culture of large corporations.
Simple or Complex The Corporate vs Military Version Corporate America: Simple-One train arriving at the train station every hour Complex- Two trains arriving at the train station every hour. U.S. Military: Simple-arriving to work on time. Complex-Coordinating 4 platoons movements while simultaneously coordinating air power, artillery, mortars and replenishment. One of the big lies in corporate America is telling you that it's harder than it looks. It is not hard and it's not complex if you've had even a small amount of operational planning training. Not only is leadership not taught but neither is planning. Sadly, I've watched a dozen managers fail because they were unable to plan for two trains arriving at the same time. Every 2nd Lieutenant in the Marine Corps is taught planning before they arrive to the fleet and attend numerous schools throughout their career. #veteranshelpingveterans #veterans #leadership #leaders #marines
