?? Caution: Olympics fever post ?? Loving the Paris Games and seeing how extensive and diverse South Africa’s representation is :) From Tatjana’s swimming medals, Craig Fulton taking India hockey to the semi’s and now seeing 2 South Africans (Zeney Geldenhuys and Rogail Joseph) finish top 3 in the 400m hurdles heats I’m feeling big pride to be from this amazing country. As South Africans we have major challenges but we always show up. It speaks of an uncommon resilience, something you want from partners, whether in business or sport. Grit. Politically, we have a GNU which is finding its feet and the wheels of change are turning in government. We are once again leading the world by showing it is possible to share power and work together for a common goal. Paris 2024 claims to be about inclusivity and it is an integral part of the CI of these Games. That is an ideal close to my heart and one I can get behind (even if the opening ceremony made one or 2 poor judgement calls). Diversity is strength and in this beautiful country we have it in droves. We have athletes competing in the top percentile despite having a fraction of the budget other countries put into their sport. It’s an amazing feat to compete amongst the top athletes in the world. We represent on every level and in every field from sport to science, technology, business and the arts. Jis, it’s lekker to be a South African ?? Viva Azania, viva ???????????? #olympics #southafrica #diversity #inclusivity #olympicspirit

Did You Know? Fun facts about the Olympics in Paris As the Olympics unfold in Paris, here's an interesting fact: South Africa has a delegation of 142 athletes participating in the games. In comparison, the combined strength of the Nordic countries amounts to 426 athletes. Even Iceland, with its small population, is represented by a commendable group of 5 athletes. South Africa is showing remarkable potential, especially in swimming. Their track and field team are also a strong contender, set to compete against our Nordic athletes in these arenas. SA has already secured their first gold medal in the women's 100m breaststroke. As for the Nordic countries, the question remains: which nation will be the first to clinch a gold medal? At Nordic House, we are excited to follow the progress of these games in Paris. We extend our best wishes to all the athletes from South Africa and the Nordic countries. May the spirit of competition and excellence shine through for everyone involved. #Olympics2024 #Paris2024 #NordicHouseCapeTown #OlympicSpirit #NordicHouseCapeTown #CapeTownNetwork #NordicHub #Nordic #NetworkingHub #BusinessHub #scandinaviannetwork #scandinavianhub? #s?rafrika #SueurAfríka #Etel?Afrikka #Sydafrika #Kapstaden #Kapkaupunki #H?feaborg

Five African boxers, #MargretTembo (women's 50kg division), #IvanusaMoreira (women's 66kg), #RadyGramane (women's 75kg), #MarineFatoumataCamara (women's 57kg), and #TiagoMuxanga (men's 71kg), have just been given a lifeline to realise their dreams of participating at #Paris2024 through the universality places process. Despite competing in the tournament qualifying routes, Africa could only qualify 20 boxers and had to rely on Universality Places to add another five athletes. This situation highlights the ongoing challenges faced by athletes from underrepresented National Olympic Committees in gaining access to the Olympic Games. In total, there are 25 boxers from 10 African countries to look out for in #Paris2024: #Algeria, #Egypt, #Nigeria, #Morocco, #Mozambique, #Zambia, #CapeVerde, #DRCongo, #Tunisia, and #Mali. This reliance underscores the need for more robust support systems and infrastructure to enable African athletes to qualify through regular channels and raises questions about the overall support and development of sports within Africa. The universality places process involves requests for athlete quotas, which are then analysed and allocated by the Commission, considering various factors including the preferences of International Sports Federations and National Olympic Committees. Rather than depending on this process, African boxing federations should enhance their administration and organisational structures to seek investment and support, empowering their athletes to compete on equal footing with their global counterparts.

This is history in the making. Cindy Ngamba just became the first athlete from the Refugee Olympic team to take a medal. Having had the honor of working with women who are refugees or internally displaced at a few different points in my career, it is amazing and not at all surprising to see this. Refugee women are strong, resilient, compassionate, and resourceful. With the growing amount of displacement due to climate change disaster, conflict, famine, political upheaval and the rise of authoritarian governments we need to be constantly thinking through how to ensure that women refugees are included as co-designers and co-decision-makers in global development programs in each country. They know how to surmount difficult obstacles to achieve their objectives. https://lnkd.in/eguAXMem
