Google has announced the launch of its next-generation AI model, Gemini 1.5. ??This new model is designed to be a significant improvement over its predecessor, with a focus on enhanced performance, longer context window, and better understanding. Gemini 1.5 is built on a new version of Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) architecture, allowing it to learn and selectively activate the most relevant pathways in its neural network, thus increasing efficiency. ??One of the most notable features of Gemini 1.5 is its enormous context window, which allows it to handle much larger queries and look at much more information at once compared to its predecessor and other existing models. ??The context window of Gemini 1.5 is a whopping 1 million tokens, compared to 128,000 for OpenAI’s GPT-4 and 32,000 for the current Gemini Pro. ??This means it can process vast amounts of information in one sitting, including up to 1 hour of video, 11 hours of audio, and codebases with over 30,000 lines of code or over 700,000 words. ??Gemini 1.5 will initially be available to business users and developers through Google’s Vertex AI and AI Studio, with a full consumer rollout expected soon. ??The standard version of Gemini Pro will be upgraded to 1.5 Pro with a 128,000-token context window. This is amazing, the congerence of AI is so good. I developed first neural network wayback in 1992( while at COEP Technological University) on a CDAC Bangalore CDACINDIA PARAM parallel supercomputer on a transputer architecture, using semaphores and parallel C compiler on PARAM supercomputer. It was hard to convince people what AI is and what Neural network is. The next project was at IITB Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay IIT Bombay - Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management where I created a neural network to predict exchange rate between two countries by taking a 35 plus parameter model using a ground up c++ code of around 4000 lines. Even then it was difficult to convince people about what AI is. Later during the tech companies I built, during eximserve, we developed supply chain route optimization algorithm using OR and Neural network, again it was hard to convince people what I do and how important and fututuristic it is. Then did several projects including our own search engine using MULDER, Nutch and Lucene using NLP. Using Gate.ac.uk for NLP and then did more than 100 plus products and projects including AI, still people are in critique and denial mode on AI. Why is that, my whole life since 1992 ( second/third year engineering) I have been doing AI. Now I am glad that world has woken up to the AI opportunity. Bites from last week AI news 1/ OpenAI introduced GPT4o, which is natively multimodal like Gemini, can respond in real time and understands and can show emotion. It is trained on images and text by predicting the next image or text token. The gap in multimodal models is also narrowing ?? https://lnkd.in/efs8pMni 4/ Representations in AI models might be converging according to a new research paper that tests this by looking at the distances between pairs of inputs. The larger the model the bigger the convergence which if true might indicate that frontier models are more alike than different and that scale might be more important than architecture. You can prevent that by reducing unknown examples i.e. examples that the LLM cannot answer even when asked multiple times.
