Working parents need #ChildCare, but many jobs don’t pay enough for parents to afford market-rate care. Publicly financed child care subsidies fill this gap for many families. Chapin Hall researchers looked at how parents enrolled in the Illinois Department of Human Services' Child Care Assistance Program participated in the labor market -- including where they worked, income levels, and what changed for them after one year of enrollment. The #childcare industry, valued at $61B, employs 15M people, and serves over 12.5M children, is broken. For the average family, child care costs surpass rent and, for 20% of families, child care costs more than in-state college tuition. Yet, child care centers struggle with profit margins of 5-10% and face difficulties in attracting and retaining skilled staff due to median incomes of $23,240. Consequently, 51% of families find themselves in areas with insufficient child care options. The cost to the 100K families who have to stay at home due to inadequate child care is $5.5K/month totaling $78B and a loss of $122B to GDP. Aicelsior is here to solve the #childcarecrisis in the US. It’s time for our partners and leaders in Connecticut to invest more in #familychildcare. Read a few ways how to in our legislative agenda.
Our #childcare system is in dire need of reform. Connecticut legislators have the power to fix it! Governor Lamont’s proposed investments announced at the #StateOfTheState are an important step forward, but we need permanent solutions to sustain the workforce and remove barriers for families who need quality care. We appreciate that the Governor acknowledged #FamilyChildCare educators, who nurture our youngest children from their homes and provide much-needed support to families and the state’s economy, but are often overlooked. Read All Our Kin’s CT Legislative Agenda to learn how lawmakers can support family child care: https://lnkd.in/g-FrHVx3 #ChildCareReform #LegislativeAgenda
