Ka pai Dean Lester The Public Enquiry revealed considerable failings within the EQC and having (in my humble opinion) basically told Treasury a pack of whatsits about the financial magnitude of the ‘On Sold’ debacle, we’re now looking at the resolution service set up to help homeowners, get proverbially kicked down the road with the invented wheel being reinvented to better suit the EQC and not the homeowner. For those of you not familiar, following the Canterbury earthquakes, it appears that loads (probably thousands) of homes had non-compliant repairs carried out; which were then sold, with Disney Club quality paperwork, and it turns out a lot of the new owners discovered that their homes were, let’s say, a little on the fucked side. These then go back to the EQC to address its enduring liability issues…..’On Sold’ Let’s say the original repairs cost $80k, variations under contract with FEQR might have taken the total build cost higher…. Then add the admin and profit and % for FEQR and it wouldn’t be unusual to discover $200-$300k has been spent by the public purse on failed repairs FIRST TIME ROUND…… we might see a good part of a million spent on many properties before they’re actually fixed properly. https://lnkd.in/gYnnhYUp
