?? Unlocking New Horizons with Lightweight Llama Models! ??? How we’re advancing AI with Llama 3.2! With two powerful techniques—pruning and knowledge distillation—we’ve built highly capable 1B and 3B Llama models that fit efficiently on mobile and edge devices. ???? ?? Pruning allowed us to reduce the models' size while retaining much of the original performance. Starting with Llama 3.1 8B, we used structured pruning, making these smaller models incredibly efficient. ?? Knowledge distillation took it a step further! Using logits from larger models like Llama 3.1 8B and 70B helped the smaller models learn from the best. The 1B and 3B models punch way above their weight! ?? Curious about the details? Generative AI: Entering Act 2 of a Technological Revolution ?? With each demonstration and experiment, the excitement surrounding generative AI is reaching unprecedented levels. From healthcare and finance to transportation, manufacturing, media, retail, and energy, generative AI is rewriting the rules for how we work and think. ???? We've seen rapid adoption curves for groundbreaking technologies before: the internet, smartphones, social media, robotics, streaming media, and electric vehicles. These technologies automated tasks and communication, providing substantial benefits like real-time messaging, faster manufacturing, and safer transportation. However, generative AI is different. It's automating and accelerating human analysis and insights, presenting new demands, constraints, and challenges. ???? We are only in what I’d call “Act 1” of the generative AI story. Unimaginable amounts of data and computes have created models that demonstrate the potential of generative AI. But these early experiments come with compromises, exceptions, cost concerns, and, yes, errors. Fast-evolving technologies are inherently fragile at the start. However, we must ensure we don't remain mired in Act 1. The real challenge lies in the pragmatics of operationalizing generative AI — what I’d call “Act 2.” This phase may be less glamorous, but it is crucial for the success of this technology. ???? Consider the major breakthrough technologies of the past 30 years that created household names like Facebook, Tesla, Netflix, and Amazon. These companies proved their value only after building the infrastructure, applications, systems, and processes that turned innovative ideas into sustainable and scalable businesses. The journey of generative AI is just beginning, and its potential is immense. Reflections on the AI Officer Summit: The Evolution of Tool Development Over the past two days, I attended the Chief AI Officer Summit and the Generative AI Summit in Berlin organized by the AI Accelerator Institute. The event was filled with inspiring discussions and innovative use cases, clearly demonstrating the transformative power of AI and Generative AI. A big Thank You to all involved! Hans Ramsl and his presentation on the evolution from manual design to Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and now to Generative Design, was my highlight of the day . With Generative AI, we have a new, powerful player on the team, one that takes both efficiency and creativity to an entirely new level. Successfully applying these technologies is challenging, but the potential quickly becomes tangible and impactful. Looking ahead, I am excited to implement Generative AI with Azure AI Studio in my current project focused on optimizing support processes. These technologies will significantly accelerate support workflows and greatly enhance the customer experience.
