The two featured teams used very different methods, including using AI and citizen science, to make top-scoring predictions of what small molecules bind to the RNA-binding site on the NSP13 helicase of the COVID virus. This site is highly conserved, so an antiviral developed from these molecules could be a powerful tool against all coronaviruses. Those predictions, and the experimental data validating them as hits, are all shared openly because we want to empower everyone to be prepared for any future pandemics.
