?? ICAM-Agostoni is leading the way in reducing its carbon footprint, especially in our cocoa supply chain. A recent study in Uganda revealed an average emission factor of 3.1 kg CO2eq/kg cocoa—much lower than the global average of 10.8 kg CO2eq/kg. This confirms the positive impact of our sustainable practices, including minimal land use change and reduced deforestation. ?? #AgostoniChocolate #ICAMcioccolato #ChocolateByNature #Sustainability #CarbonFootprint #CocoaFarming #SupplyChain #Agroforestry

Agroforestry systems, which incorporate trees and shrubs into farming networks, are 'vital' in achieving more sustainable cocoa production in West Africa, a new study led by The University of G?ttingen has found. "Our results suggest a clear path forward for designing agroforestry systems that deliver higher resilience and sustainability,"?commented Reimund P. R?tter, head of the research group. #cocoa #agroforestry #ghana #sustainability #farming Read more: https://lnkd.in/ePpmVy_E

Such an important reminder! Land degradation is a critical global challenge, and #Agroforestry offers a powerful, sustainable solution. By restoring soil health, supporting biodiversity, and providing economic opportunities for farmers, agroforestry is indeed a win-win for people and the planet. Here’s to embracing innovative practices for a sustainable future!
Did you know 40% of the world's land is degraded? #Agroforestry is a sustainable solution that restores healthy #soil, provides habitat for beneficial organisms, and offers economic benefits to farmers. It is the future of global land use. ??: https://bit.ly/3Aj46i6 #Trees4Resilience

Agroforestry for Climate Change Adaptation ?? ? ?? Trees in agroforestry systems store carbon in their biomass and in the soil. ?? Agroforestry practices can decrease fossil fuel usage by reducing equipment runs in fields and enhancing energy conservation around farm buildings. ?? Agroforestry systems create microclimates that benefit crops and livestock, helping to protect against extreme weather events and climate variability. ?? By incorporating trees into agricultural landscapes, agroforestry provides habitat connectivity for wildlife, allowing species to move and adapt to changing climate conditions. ? ?? Agroforestry practices reduce soil erosion and enhance soil fertility, which not only improves farm productivity but also helps in carbon storage. ? ?? Importantly, agroforestry not only mitigates climate change but also helps farmers adapt to its effects, providing multiple benefits such as improved crop yields, diversified farm incomes, and enhanced food security. ? ?? Agroforestry represents an innovative, holistic approach to sustainable agriculture in an era of increasing climate uncertainty by simultaneously addressing environmental protection, economic stability, and food production.

Will the US be a "no-risk" country under new #EUDR classifications? The implementation of the European Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) has been postponed for twelve months following a decisive vote in the European Parliament, which also introduced a "no-risk” country category which claims to simplify compliance for countries with stable forestry practices and minimal deforestation risk. However, critics argue that this designation undermines the regulation's climate-saving objectives. Which countries will likely fall under "no-risk," and will this include the US with its extensive biofuels and forest products industries? Learn more in our latest blog post. https://lnkd.in/eiXh-AJd #biofuels #forestry #deforestation

Do you know the difference between Rotational Farming and Shifting Cultivation? One of the two is a sustainable and agroecological approach while the other is a bit controversial in the context of rural development in the long run. Shifting Cultivation also known as the Slash-and-burn method is a traditional way of farming to clear the land from the vegetation for the next cultivation until the fertility of the land declines. In this case, the land would be abandoned, allowing a pause to regenerate and revive. This process is repeated for a long time. While this method is still practiced in some parts of the world and has its benefits, it could lead to soil degradation, deforestation, habitat destruction, and biodiversity loss. Rotational Farming refers to the practice of cultivating different crops in the same field in a planned sequence over several seasons. This technique unlike the other one, improves soil fertility, reduces soil erosion, and controls pests and disease. Additionally, the crop yields increase and the need for chemical fertilizer is decreased. It is in harmony with nature and ecosystem. #Rotationlalfarming #agroecology #agroforestry #shiftingcultivation #sustainablefarming #sustainableruraldevelopment #ruraldevelopment
