How do you like to spend the last hour of work on a Friday? When I can, I like to reflect on the week, get organized for the upcoming one, and read up on #WASH related updates/news/best practices popping up. While reading the FY24 Women, Sanitation, and Hygiene Congressional Report (usaid.gov), I got goosebumps being reminded of the reality in which we live... - 2 billion women and girls do not have a safe toilet - 1 billion don't have soap and water to wash their hands at home Collectively, we have a lot of work to do to change this! Nevertheless, I am optimistic about these numbers decreasing... even if we won't hit SDG6 by 2030. For example, this report highlights USAID's impact - in FY2022 they helped 2M+ women and girls gain access to improved sanitation. And so many more groups - NGOs, governments, bilateral, multilateral organizations, corporations, and others - are working towards solving the #WASHcrisis. #Toilets #Hygiene #HumanRights

Reflecting on the WASH Hub Initiative Kick-off Conference - a pivotal moment in shaping the WASH Road Map! The meeting was hosted by International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC, and played a central role in laying the foundation for the creation of the WASH Hub, providing a platform for diverse stakeholders (German Toilet Organization, Centre for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technology (CAWST), IOM - UN Migration SOLIDARITéS INTERNATIONAL, Save the Children International, IHIP - International Humanitarian Infrastructure Platform, UNICEF, BORDA-WesCA, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Rode Kruis Nederland and WASH Road Map) to unite in a shared vision for global water, sanitation, and hygiene solutions. As we embark on this collective journey, the importance of ongoing collaboration cannot be overstated. The WASH Hub that will be born out of this conference, will be a driving force in turning plans into actions. Local & Regional Governments are crucial for driving sustainable recovery, yet their limited involvement in NRRPs hinders the effectiveness of the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF). To unleash the full potential of the RRF, robust engagement from local and regional actors is vital. Today's RRF event shares the survey results and focuses on empowering municipalities and regions to play a more integrated role in RRF implementation. It’s been four years since a national emergency was declared in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. Though the 2030 Sustainable Agenda has faced significant setbacks during the pandemic crisis, CAF America donors became key players in funding the SDGs while addressing areas of critical need for relief and recovery efforts, especially those related to SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being. This is big. It is incredible to hear the United States Global Water Coordinator emphasizing the role of data in accelerating WASH decisions. This isn't a technical staff-level discussion. This is the most senior official in the US Government for international WASH talking about the need to use data to improve decisions. This is what high level commitment to #WASHdata looks like, and it paves the way for transformational programs that leverage data to accelerate efficiency, advance equity, and strengthen resilience.

Totally agree with you International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).. Because the best chance of #delivering on the #commitment to end hunger by 2030 lies in scaling up investments, and developing #new and #innovative ways to mobilize funding. By crowding-in #technical and #financial #investments from the #privatesector, we can scale up #approaches that build rural economies without #poverty and #hunger. ■The funding gap to end hunger is immense and called for more funding to transform food systems and develop rural areas. With the adoption of the new 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, countries have #renewed their #commitment to fight poverty, hunger and malnutrition, recognising that equitable and sustainable growth, and inclusive structural transformation are #key to #achieving Sustainable Development and moving lifting people out of #poverty. ■The 2030 #Agenda is thus an opportunity to focus #public and #private investments in reaching the poorest of the poor, particulary in rural areas of the developing world. ■Investments today need to take into account natural resource conservation and sustainable agricultural production, including investing in climate smart technologies. ■To promote rural development and inclusion, countries must take specific policy and programmatic actions that reach the poor directly. ■This should include a combination of social and economic policies that address today's challenges and enable to empower rural people to earn a living and shape their livelihoods.

Island nations including the Philippines may scale 'Island-carrying capacity framework' for tourism incorporating food supply, quality of life index among other development measures given rice, fish, other local produce production issues and rising undernourished proportion in rural and urban areas. Higher foreign-to-local currency equivalent to be used for local food prices deemed as cheap may likely affect local standard food prices, and rerouting of supply towards foreign cohort with higher buying capacity resulting to unaffordability for the low-income rural households. AGRITOURISM path including investment to rural farms and local farm cooperatives may be more sustainable for the Philippines given food production blocks and rising total undernourished proportion.?
