Here’s the plan: ?Cold DMs – It’s a numbers game, but with the right message, you’d be surprised how many doors open. ?Referrals – Happy clients are the best marketing. Given the name of my business, I get asked a lot about what makes a great brief. Obviously, I do know a thing or two about it (would be a bit awkward if I didn’t) But what a lot of people may not realise is that a great brief isn’t just something a client hands over to their agency. It’s a two-way process. It may be a controversial opinion, but I would argue that it’s the agency’s responsibility to guide the client. Why? Because most of our clients are experts in their?business - not in writing marketing briefs. Honestly, they shouldn’t have to be. I never just take the brief and run. Instead, I work closely with our clients to find out what really matters - asking the tough questions, digging up the details and make sure everyone is aligned before the work begins. So here’s how we go Beyond the Brief: 1.?Start with a conversation, not a document: Before anything takes shape, I focus on the bigger picture - goals, challenges, audience and what success looks like specifically for the client. It’s all about creating context and clarity. 2. Refine and align: A brief is more than a checklist - it’s a blueprint. Together with my clients, we turn ideas into a clear, actionable plan that ensures everyone knows what we’re working toward and why. 3.?Own the process: As a partner, its my job to guide you through the briefing process - not the other way around. My role is to simplify the complex, clarify what’s needed and make sure we’re setting the project up for success from day one. Yes, both parties need to come to the table, but agencies need to stop blaming ‘bad briefs’ for poor results. Instead, we should be stepping up and taking ownership of the process. Agree / Disagree? You can’t deliver results for EVERY client. And that’s okay. Not because you didn’t try. Not because you didn’t care enough. But because building something real—like a loyal audience—requires ALL the pieces to come together. And not everyone is ready to do that. Let me share a quick story. Two years ago, I started working with two clients at the same time. Both wanted the same thing: to grow their followers and establish a personal brand. Same strategies, same tools, same level of guidance. One of them showed up every single day. They followed through, engaged with their audience, and trusted the process—even when it felt slow. The other? Well, they wanted shortcuts. Skipped steps, missed deadlines, and hesitated when it got hard. You can guess who saw results. Well, not everyone is ready to put in the work it takes. And no matter how good your strategy is, execution will always make or break the outcome. As creators, marketers, or consultants, we often carry the weight of client results on our shoulders. But we need to remember this: We are PARTNERS in the process, not magicians. We can create the best strategies, write the best copy, or design the best visuals. But if the client doesn’t execute consistently - or give it the time and effort it deserves - The results just won’t happen. And that’s not on you. Focus on finding the clients who are ready to go all in. Who trust the process. Who are as invested in the outcome as you are. Because those are the partnerships where the real magic happens.
