#TheTrail - In The Baltimore Sun, Delegate Malcolm P. Ruff, Esq. and Michael Cross-Barnet write, “State parks are more than just beautiful places; they provide recreational, economic and cultural benefits to their host communities. Baltimore City is one of just two jurisdictions in Maryland without the advantages of a state park. But we can change this, elevating both the city and the region, thanks to a special opportunity under Maryland law. Our legislation, House Bill 1358, establishes an innovative state-city partnership for the support and management of Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park, Baltimore’s largest park. With its mature forest, diverse wildlife, scenic trails and historic structures covering more than 1,000 acres, Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park is one of the largest urban forest parks on the East Coast. It should be the envy of other Mid-Atlantic cities. Instead, the park has an unsavory reputation, and most city residents avoid it. It’s well past time for Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park to fulfill its potential as the pride of West Baltimore and a true regional destination. Baltimore has many fine parks, but GFLP is unique. With its large size, diverse topography and proximity to several nearby counties, it already resembles a state park in many ways, making it ideally situated for transformative investment.” #MyWestSide #parksandrecreation https://lnkd.in/gMRa79AW

As we approach 2025, the City of Duvall sets a focused agenda to create an even stronger, more connected community. Our legislative priorities are aligned with values that matter most to our residents—safety, sustainability, infrastructure, and inclusivity. Infrastructure Investment: Our growing community needs modernized infrastructure. We're prioritizing updating our Public Works Yard, Police Department and City Hall. We also must prioritize securing funding for critical infrastructure needs like 3rd Avenue, emergency operations and community/small business gathering spaces. Expanding City Parks: We want to continue the expansion of the Big Rock Ball Field complex and seek opportunities to expand McCormick Park for additional recreation while balancing the impacts on the natural environment and shoreline. Transportation and Public Safety: We need to secure funding to address transportation and public safety needs such as safety cameras, lighted sidewalks, and transportation studies at Hwy 203/ Woodinville-Duvall Rd intersections and Cherry Valley Rd & Main Street. Address intersections throughout the City to improve accessibility and safety. Housing Affordability & Diversity: Access to affordable, diverse housing options is critical to a vibrant community. We'll advocate for housing affordability policies, ensuring Duvall remains a welcoming place for everyone. And much more! Our 2025 legislative priorities reflect our commitment to fostering a community where everyone can live, work, and play. Together, let's champion Duvall's future! #CityofDuvall #CommunityBuilding #LegislativePriorities #Infrastructure #Sustainability #PublicSafety #HousingAffordability #Education

Jackson Redevelopment Authority in concert with partners 2C Mississippi announced an initial $1.5 million dollar green infrastructure investment in the Farish Street Historic District. Farish Street, sometimes referred to as a Black Wall Street was a center of Black business and culture in Jackson, Mississippi that thrived in spite of the challenges of segregation and racism. Many organizations and leaders of the Civil Rights Movement lived and worked there, making Farish street a symbol of Black socio-political resiliency. With the advent of integration of public schools combined with the systemic underinvestment that followed, the street began to decline. The Farish Street project was chosen by community members based on two factors, (1)the Urban Heat Island data collected for Jackson revealed that Farish Street is an extreme urban heat island, recording 10°F hotter than other parts of the city, and (2) Farish Street has historical significance.
