On January 3rd, our current Afro Scholar Cohort had the opportunity to interview with law firms that included Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP, Proskauer Rose LLP, Mintz, Fried Frank and more at our annual 1L Job Fair. We are consistently thankful for our Sponsors’ investment into the future of our scholars as they endeavor to pursue leadership in organizations like their own and the opportunity to meet attorneys at firms like Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP greatly assists this mission. We also would like to thank our sponsor Perkins Coie for preparing our scholars for the fair by hosting a panel concerning the ins and outs of interviewing. Beyond their accomplished backgrounds, our scholars are trained to be leaders amongst leaders, and every scholar has undergone professional development training and coaching from the best in the industry. With these tools, we believe they are equipped for success in the law.

Earlier this year, I had an idea to create an Agency Subcontractor Job Fair that would connect Online Service based Agency Owners with subcontractors. After selling out the first one, we made the next one a 2 day event and nearly sold that out too! This morning, I opened registration for our January 22nd job fair to the waitlist and, within the first few hours, we’ve sold 10% of the subcontractor spots! ?? It’s clearly a win/win for agency owners and subcontractors! The speed networking aspect of it allows for quick connection and bypasses some of the early steps most agency owners have to take in order to find quality hires! What questions can I answer for you about this event?

HUGE NEWS: employer registration for the National Plaintiffs' Law Association's second ever job fair is live! https://lnkd.in/gHgPytQP The National Plaintiffs' Law Association is a community of students, alumni, and plaintiffs' attorneys passionate about increasing law student access to and awareness of opportunities in plaintiffs-side representation.?Our annual job fair is a cornerstone of that mission. Created as an alternative to on-campus recruiting programs that funnel rising 2L towards large defense firms, we had more than 400 student sign-ups last year—our first ever event! This year, we want to do even more.?The virtual job fair—where employers can use our digital platform to schedule and host their interviews—will run from?August 5-8th, but we want this program to be valuable outside of that one week. With big law summer recruiting happening earlier and earlier, we're planning on launching our digital platform on?June 17, allowing students to know their options and see a comprehensive list of plaintiffs' side employers early in their job search. Don't wait: sign up today! https://lnkd.in/gHgPytQP

Employers can all agree, it is fairly easy to know when even the best candidates appears unprepared for an interview, that's why it's best to do everything you can to be on your 'A' game. To help ensure you are prepared, prior to the Diverse Abilities Job Fair we'll be hosting a Zoom meeting that touches on what you can expect at the fair, what you should know before you attend, and how you should prepare to make the most out of this opportunity. Also, learn what makes this job fair different, what types of accommodations will be provided, and how you can set up one-on-one meetings! Sometimes being prepared is the missing ingredient that a candidate needs to feel comfortable at a job fair. Your level of preparedness can also help you to stand out from the rest of the competition! To register for the Zoom meeting, please visit rb.gy/ut6m0g. We hope to see you there on April 16th!

Hey HR Reps and Recruiters: If there is a job fair in the community that you recruit from, do you ask current employees if they want to attend and help? If they do not want any part of it, they probably think the place they work at is toxic, and are just in for the money. Why aren't your veterans recommending your place to work at? Why not ask them, and listen to their answers? Can minor adjustments make the place someone would join and want to spend 30 years at?

Yesterday, more than 2k students from Conestoga College, University of Waterloo, University of Waterloo, and University of Guelph; and over 100 participating organizations came for the Partnerships for Employment Job Fair! Huge shoutout to the committee, especially Kriskyn Cabrera, Alice Michaud and Melissa McNown-Smith —you guys are rockstars! It was also nice to meet and chat with other universities! After speaking with some employers, one key takeaway for students attending job fairs is the importance of research. Before approaching a company, take the time to learn about them. This not only helps you stand out but also shows your enthusiasm and preparedness. Avoid generic questions like, “What do you do?” or “What jobs do you have?”—these can leave a negative impression. Instead, ask specific, informed questions that demonstrate your genuine interest in the company and the opportunities they offer.
