Is #Sudan a forgotten war? A war that started with counter-accusations has caused enormous human suffering. Two warring generals from the Rapid Support Forces(RSF) and the Sudan Army continue a war with due disregard for human rights or lives. On various quarters, it is estimated that 20k - 150k lives have been lost, 7 million Sudanese have been driven to starvation, and 1.8 million of the 8.7 million displaced have moved to neighbouring countries. This tragedy has dire situations have been complicated by an outbreak of war on the border of Chad and Sudan, an outbreak of hunger and diseases which has led to over 3.5 million facing malnutrition. Africa, we must stand with Sudan, the people of Sudan. The war is ravaging everything we know about Sudan. Here is #AfricansRising response to the conflict:?https://buff.ly/489m5Uq. #IAmTheSudanRevolution #StopSudanWar? #EndSudanWar #KeepEyesOnSudan? #BorderlessAfrica #LetOurPeopleMove

Sudan is now facing the world's largest displacement crisis, with 150,000 fatalities and 12.2 million displaced. The conflict between military factions has deepened an already strained region, with 79% of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Darfur. Al Fasher, under siege by the RSF, is witnessing severe food insecurity, and mass atrocities are feared if the city falls, particularly against the Masalit community, echoing the region's history of ethnically motivated violence. "Civilian populations are completely at the mercy of the RSF (Rapid Support Forces). In places where Soaker Armed Forces (SAF) says it can protect civilians, it's not been able to & has, historically, not been willing to... What we have here is a protection vacuum in the world's largest protection crisis" - Kholood Khair "The world's largest humanitarian crisis... [Famine & food insecurity] beyond anything else that has been measured in the last 20 years. The largest mass mortality event in Africa since the 1984/1985 famine. The primary issue: The destruction of livelihoods that forced displacement of people, the destruction of the way of life that keeps people sustained. It's not until we have that type of end to the atrocities, the destruction of infrastructure, the disruption of livelihoods, that we can begin to see an end to this famine. Humanitarian relief is very important but secondary... the need to protect civilians" - Alex De Waal AlJazeera Inside Story #Sudan #KeepEyesOnSudan

A year after the war of the generals: severe famine in Sudan and the world is really not interested! In the shadow of the wars in Ukraine and Gaza, these days we mark a year since the outbreak of the struggle between the two generals in Sudan - General Abd al-Fattah al-Burhan, head of the Sovereignty Council (SAF) and the other, his deputy Muhammad Hamdan Daglo, known as 'Hamidi' (or Hamti). In April 2019, after a protest of several months, the ruler of Sudan, Omar al-Bashir, who ruled Sudan since 1989, was deposed - and after a period of civilian-military government and a military coup - in April 2023, General Degalo, who wants his forces to be integrated into the Sudanese army, tried to take over the country. Hamidi's forces are called the 'Rapid Support Forces' (RSF) which are a revamped version of the Janjaweed, the armed Arab militias that operated (with violence, rape and murder) in Darfur in western Sudan between 2003 and 2005. The United Nations agencies report that over 8.6 million people have been forced to leave their homes and about 25 million need humanitarian aid. 18 million face severe hunger, and every seventh child in the country suffers from severe malnutrition. Where are the demonstrations? Where is the campaign to support the Sudanese population? Why are there no condemnations? Maybe the answer is because they are not Palestinians? You decide.

The ongoing Sudan conflict now represents the largest displacement crisis in the world, with approximately 12.2 million displaced to neighbouring countries. Additionally, 15,000 casualties have been reported since the conflict broke out in April 2023. The displacement of civilians is putting a strain on its seven neighbouring states, which are constantly receiving an influx of refugees, while the majority of the population in these states are also facing acute food insecurity. https://lnkd.in/dphdJNDc

António Guterres Your words resonate deeply, highlighting the urgency of peace in a world torn apart by conflict. The situations in Gaza, Sudan, Ukraine, and beyond reveal the tragic reality of war's devastating impact on innocent lives especially women and children. It is indeed disheartening to see families shattered, children orphaned, and entire communities displaced because of the ambitions of a few who prioritize power and greed over human dignity. Peace is not just a lofty ideal but a fundamental necessity, and as you rightly pointed out, almost every holy scripture, including the Bible and the Quran, emphasizes peace as central to human existence. For example, in the Bible, Jesus declares, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God" (Matthew 5:9). In the Quran, one finds, "And if they incline to peace, then incline to it also" (Quran 8:61). Such verses remind us that peace is not just a virtue but a divine commandment. The tragic fate of children in war-torn regions, especially those who never chose to be born into these conditions, is a constant reminder that the innocent bear the heaviest burden. Refugees, many of whom are children, face unimaginable horrors, and yet they are the least responsible for the chaos surrounding them. This injustice calls for a stronger global response. You rightly raise a concern about the effectiveness of the United Nations and its organs, which often seem powerless in stopping the perpetrators of these crimes. While their efforts are critical, more action is needed. The international community must demand accountability from leaders who fuel conflicts, and we, as individuals, must continue to raise our voices in solidarity with those who suffer. The world cannot afford to remain passive in the face of such overwhelming suffering. We must demand peace, hold those responsible for conflict accountable, and work tirelessly to heal the divisions in our world. Peace is not optional; it is essential for the survival of humanity. #PeaceForAll #EndConflict #EndConflict #PeaceIsPower

International Peace Day: A Reflection on True Peace from an Indigenous Perspective Today, on International Peace Day, we reflect on the absence of conflict and the deeper, lost meaning of peace. In these times, peace has often been reduced to a fragile silence between tensions or a fleeting truce, when in reality, it is far more profound—a vision rooted in justice, respect, and harmony with all living beings. For #IndigenousPeoples, peace is not simply the absence of war. Our cosmovision offers a timeless understanding of positive peace—one that embraces the interdependence between the earth, its creatures, and the communities that sustain them. In this worldview, peace is found in balance, in nurturing relationships, and in protecting territories and ecosystems that have been cared for by our ancestors for millennia. As the world struggles with conflicts and ecological crises, the wisdom and resilience of Indigenous Peoples stand as a beacon. It is our role to remind humanity of what true peace means: not only a political or social settlement but a holistic restoration of balance with nature, land, and one another. On this day, let us reaffirm our commitment to bringing this vision to the world, reminding all that peace is not a luxury or a mere cessation of violence—it is the essence of life, deeply embedded in the way we coexist with our territories and each other. Peace, in its truest form, is waiting to be rediscovered. It is already alive within Indigenous Peoples and their enduring relationship with the earth.

Dear Mr Guterres, Our world will have peace when an economy is launched in which all consumers spend their money exclusively on products that keep the environment in perfect condition. Mankind will then live in harmony with Nature. Raw materials utilised in the ways of living of billions of consumers will be consumed with optimum efficiency. There will therefore be enough goods and services produced that there is no hunger. Every body can share compatible levels of well being. People who share satisfaction live in peace. This peace will happen rapidly when this economy is launched in Israel and Palestine. ? All it takes to launch this economy in Israel and Palestine is to be honest about the area Palestinians need to establish a state and be good neighbours.??An area as large as the land Israel covers for a Palestinian state takes away any obstacle for a future in which Jews and Arabs live in peace based on respect for immanent values.??Both Palestinians and Israeli will be admired for their wisdom of having put that economy into operation.??The Jews will be respected for their force to have been honest about the optimum area for Palestine.??Eventually the Jews will be loved because they accepted to participate in the development of an economy that maintains the integrity of Nature, a prerequisite to ensure their own integrity. The moment fourteen and a half million Jews realise that they will be loved by mankind, while maintaining their own integrity, if they manage an economy together with the Arabs in which consumers safeguard the integrity of Nature for this and following generations, the Jews and Arabs will quickly see to it that the Palestinians get their own state on a decent piece of land and launch this economy. The Jews have a function in the world; to maintain the integrity of Nature. They will inevitably be loved when they do their job properly. Complete proposal at?www.biosustainable.org.

The war in Lebanon continues unabated, striking at sites across the country, ostensibly to root out Hezbollah officials, fighters, and infrastructure, while driving an already battered population deeper into fear, uncertainty, and desperation. Mercy Corps’ excellent Lebanon Crisis Analytics Team (LCAT) have just released a flash report, providing a snapshot of the humanitarian impact of the war on Syrians, Lebanese and others, as well as medium- and longer-term implications. It also provides two potential scenarios that may help guide humanitarians and decision-makers should the war continue as-is or should it escalate to include a blockade and destruction of national level infrastructure. While the report provides excellent analysis on potential food security implications as a direct result of ongoing bombings, it may be missing longer-term implications of the destruction and contamination of agricultural land that may take many more years to rehabilitate into productivity. The psychological impact of the current situation as part of the continuum of shocks and stresses faced by those in Lebanon should also not be underestimated. You can find LCAT’s latest flash report in the link below. #mercycorps #lcat #humanitarian #crisis #conflict #foodsecurity #lebanon #refugees #economy #analysis #humanitariananalysis #israel #syria #palestine https://lnkd.in/eEBrc57P
