The African innovation scene is buzzing with potential, but for many startups, finding the right funding is still a huge challenge. Even though we're seeing more venture capital firms, angel investors, and grants popping up, African startups are still struggling to close the funding gap when compared to other regions. In 2023, Africa secured $5.9 billion in venture capital, which is actually 22% less than the previous year. While this is still higher than the decade average of $4.7 billion (AVCA), the reality is that the average deal size remains much smaller than what we see globally. It’s clear that finding the financial support to grow is still tough for many. That’s where Blitz comes in. Our new platform is here to help close that gap by connecting African startups to global funding opportunities. Blitz offers a simple, centralized place for early-stage founders, social enterprises, and academic innovators to find vetted funding opportunities, while using smart matchmaking to connect them with the right backers. If you’re an African founder or innovator looking for funding, Blitz is the place to start. It’s designed to help you find the support you need to scale your ideas and make real change happen. Join Blitz today and get access to exclusive benefits! https://buff.ly/3Xv9KoI #AfricanInnovation #FundingAfrica #VentureCapital #StartupChallenges #InvestmentOpportunities #BlitzAfrica #InnovationFunding #StartupSuccess #AfricaRising #InvestInAfrica

The Governance Toolkit is a collaborative project originating from the 'Dakar VC Unconference' in April 2022 and further developed during the 'Tunis VC Unconference' in October 2023. ?? It aims to assist early-stage African startups in navigating governance issues as they grow. The toolkit was prompted by numerous instances of governance violations leading to the closure of businesses in Africa between 2022 and 2023. Over 12 investment organizations have contributed to the creation of the guidebook, pooling research, expertise, resources, and templates to offer a concise yet comprehensive resource on startup governance. The initiative seeks support to ensure the success and sustainability of African startups, empowering entrepreneurs across the continent. ???? #JoinTheCouncil #Governance #ImpactInvesting #AfricArena2024

Wimbart’s second annual report is shedding light on a critical issue in the African tech ecosystem: the misalignment between investor and startup reporting expectations. This disconnect is not only hindering effective communication but also impacting the overall health of the startup landscape. Key takeaways from the report: ? Mismatched expectations: While investors largely believe they've clarified their reporting requirements, a significant number of founders disagree. ? Lack of understanding: Many startups feel that investors don't fully grasp their business and market, leading to challenges in valuing reporting metrics. ? Limited intervention: This misalignment contributes to a lack of investor intervention, as they may not feel equipped to provide meaningful feedback. ? Standardization challenges: The absence of a standardized approach to reporting creates further confusion and friction. This article explores the implications of these issues and how to address them.
