"Successful treatment of the psychological effects of early life trauma requires attention to not only what happened the survivor but also to what did not happen. Early life trauma involves prolonged, recurring abuse, which is generally coupled with neglect. The survivor must try to contend with the impact of abuse, while lacking the developmental learning that comes from having had a secure attachment figure"

"Children across the globe are exposed to these different types of adversities and others. For many children, their experiences turn into trauma, bleeding them of purpose, meaning, and desire. For some children, like LeBron, they meet these experiences with resilience, propped up by their biology and community"

"One well-known problem across psychology is the disproportionate use of WEIRD (Western, educated, from industrialised, rich, and democratic countries) participants. Roberts et al. (2020) examined more than 26,000 research articles published in selected journals between 1974 and 2018. They found that only 5% of the publications examined race and for cognitive psychology articles specifically, this percentage dropped to 0.1%. While we might like to think that cognitive processes are universal, they are in fact often shaped by nurture as well as by nature. As Roberts et al. point out “a handful of studies published in top-tier cognitive journals make clear that cognitive processes, such as auditory processing, categorization and memorization, do indeed vary as a function of racialized experiences” (p. 1298). The research community needs to do more to ensure that the right research questions are addressed"

"Historically, trauma studies have neglected vulnerable populations, as well as the experience and aftermath of trauma in non-Western cultures. Although art and literature are replete with descriptions of posttrauma reactions in non-Western countries devastated by war, genocide, and other geopolitical conflicts, it is unclear from these accounts if these reactions map neatly onto current Westernized definitions of ASD&PTSD."?

?? We’re proud to launch our new campaign #MadeInSocialHousing. Because when we build social homes, we’re building better lives. We’re building stability. A brighter future. But don’t just take our word for it, take theirs ??
Social housing is the ONLY answer to the housing emergency. But we simply don’t have anywhere near enough of it. We need to build good social homes again so a new generation can be proud to say: we are made in social housing.?
