Prior to Doane, Hugo played at Northeast Community College, where he was the top goal scorer, made All Region first team, and was a Second team All-American. Hugo is a very technical player who keeps things clean in the midfield and always finds his way in to the box for scoring opportunities. We are excited to have his technical scoring prowess on our side. Vamos Hugo! Samuel Monta?ez (Barranquilla, Colombia) Samuel joins us from Doane Univeristy, where he was a teammate of Hugo’s. Samuel previously played at Allen CC where he was an NJCAA National Top 8 GK. Samuel is uniquely gifted with being a great GK in the traditional sense as well as when the ball is at his feet, as an additional field player. A trait we welcome greatly as we always want our GK to have the ability to be involved in the buildup. Qué Chévere Samuel!

EN: 10 Lessons in Zen Leadership Practiced by Legendary Coach Phil Jackson --------------------------------- 4?? Treating Wins and Losses the Same In two decades of coaching,Phil Jackson has the highest winning percentage in basketball history (704) and won a record-breaking 11 championship rings. He also won 2 championship rings as a player with the New York Knicks. Yet despite all of this winning ,there were plenty of painful losses and disappointments as well.Teams would go on "hot streaks" and "cold streaks" and there were more than enough devastating losses in big playoff games. One lesson Jackson has learned is that you need to stay level wether you win or lose, and not let any single win or loss define you as a person (even if it's losing game 7 in the finals to the Celtics). Reflecting on his time as a player,Jackson remembered a funny but inspiring story from one of his teammates after they ended a long winning streak. "Early in the 1969-70 season,we went on an 18 game winning streak and pulled away from the rest of the pack. When the streak ended with a disappointing loss at home, reporters asked Red what he would have done if the Knicks had won,and he replied : " I'd go home, drink a scotch ,and eat the great meal that Selma(his wife) is cooking." And what would he do now that we had lost? "Go home, drink a scotch, and eat the great meal Selma is cooking." This nonchalant response perfectly shows the proper attitude to have during any win or loss. It's important to not get "too high" when you win or "too low" when you lose, because at the end of the day you have to still keep living and keep grinding. Of course, winning feels great and losing feels like crap, but those feelings are only temporary anyway. They don't change the bigger picture. ---------------------------------------- Next post ?? 5?? The Importance of Pregame Rituals Stay tuned ??

"It has been Sean Gibson’s lifelong goal to honor the legacy of his great-grandfather, former Pittsburgh Crawfords and Homestead Grays catcher Josh Gibson. But as much good as the younger Gibson has achieved through his role as executive director of the Josh Gibson Foundation, Wednesday represents a mammoth home run — and maybe the most important day ever — when it comes to how many view the prodigious slugger. After a 3 1/2-year wait, Major League Baseball is finally incorporating Negro Leagues statistics into its record books, honoring Gibson and the 2,300 or so other players who played in the seven iterations of Black baseball from 1920-48. ----------------------------- The changes are significant. Gibson’s career average of .372 pushes him past Ty Cobb (.366), while the former’s slugging percentage (.718) moves him ahead of Babe Ruth (.690). The same goes for Gibson’s OPS, the mark of 1.177 also pushing him past the Babe (1.164). When it comes to single-season records, Gibson’s .466 average for the Grays in 1943 is now considered the best in MLB history, eclipsing fellow Hall of Famer Hugh Duffy (.440 in 1898). Fellow Negro Leagues star Charlie Smith (.451 for the 1929 New York Lincoln Giants) actually ranks second. Barry Bonds’ slugging percentage of .863 from 2001 dropped from first to fifth, with Gibson’s .974 from 1937 taking over the top spot. Gibson’s incredible OPS marks of 1.474 in 1937 and 1.435 in 1943 now occupy the top two spots." Sign up for the Weekend Roundup here: Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eX2WZYEc

In injury recovery, particularly in hockey, do expectations for RTP exceed standards? Is it expected that once a player has completed off ice rehab processes they will return without benefit of any formal on ice interval based process to reconnect injury, body and mind to the physical requirements of the game? Expectations are “a belief that something will happen”, and don’t always align with actual real time needs. Standards are a “level of quality” and what is acceptable. A fact based approach. It is being acknowledged that we cannot accurately replicate on ice needs in an off ice rehab capacity. Therefore, when a player is cleared for RTS, the “standard process” (quality) should include a Needs Analysis, Functional Assessment, possible equipment adjustments and well thought out flexible on ice recovery process. The days of “expecting” a player to just suit up and get back out there are over. The days of having a coach skate the player as the only form of recovery should be over. We can do much better. We can have high standards for players returning from injury. John McGill On Ice Rehab?? In sales, and life, you often will hear the phrase - you miss 100% of the shots you never take, often attributed to the Great One, Wayne Gretzky. This has always fascinated me. Gretzky actually said this in response to the constant chirp he heard about shooting more often. He basically acknowledged the criticism that he should shoot more. However, in Hockey a player is awarded a ‘point’ on their stats for a goal scored and also an assist. The Great One was and is the all time points leader in the NHL, he is also the all time Goal scorer in the NHL. However, what many might not realize is the Great One is also the all time Assist leader. Recording more than twice as many assists than goals. You see, the Great One was focused on his team winning. When you focus on the team, you learn that often times it’s more important to pass the puck, and help your team score, and ultimately win the game. To be the Great One you don’t have to always be the one putting in the net. Life, just like Hockey, rewards you for the assist. How do you pass the puck in your life? What’s your secret to getting the assist, and thus the win?

Proud parent moment (sorry, not sorry)! This weekend, my 8-year-old son reminded me once again why he inspires me and teaches me valuable lessons. First, he played for his new 2nd football team (don’t ask). He has joined as a goalkeeper and has helped them remain unbeaten for 7 games in their cup, this week resulting in a player of the match performance in a close game! ?? Then, we attended his basketball presentation evening. He's been playing for just six months, competing with up to U12s, and his team won the league with a perfect record—14 games, 14 wins! ?? But the highlight was his unexpected nomination for the club's Most Improved Player, chosen from hundreds of players. ?? Then came Sunday. His football team was a goal down in a tournament semi-final with only minutes left. Despite being taken off injured, as captain, he asked to go back on to help his teammates. He returned to the pitch, scored the equaliser within a minute, and took the final penalty in the shootout, calmly winning the game and helping to send his team to the final. His passion and commitment to helping his team succeed are truly inspiring. As leaders, we can learn so much from this: focus on making the team successful, and in doing so, we achieve our own success. Pursue what you love and strive to be the best you can be. His willingness to sacrifice his own comfort for the team's success is a powerful reminder of what it means to be a truly dedicated leader. #ProudParent #LeadershipLessons #Teamwork
