11 years ago, my first job right out of college was being a sales associate at Nordstrom. It was 2013 and only a lucky few of my friends landed the type of dream jobs we all were hoping for right out of college. The high paying salary jobs that college makes you believe you will get hired for. The summer before I graduated I found myself frustrated that the only internships available were unpaid. How was I suppose to make any money? I came across the Nordstrom Internship, and out of 100s of applicants I was hired. The internship was an accelerator to being a department manager; they provided incredible leadership training. I fell in love with the culture, how they invested in growing their employees and promoting within and instilling the Nordstrom Way into my blood stream. Customers are the heart of Nordstrom and I fell in love with the customers, their stories, and how I could create moments of magic by helping them shop. I learned the Nordstrom way: ??If you have time to lean than you have time to clean ?Leave it better than you found it ??Always under promise and over deliver ????♀?Use my best judgement ??Stack them high, watch them fly ??You don’t sell anything from the backstock ??Greet a customer within 60 seconds of them walking on your floor ??A return is an opportunity ???Always walk a customer’s shopping bag around the cash wrap to hand it to the them. ? The customer is always right As a manager you operated your department like it was your name on the building. I would check our sales number every hour on the hour, so we could “make the day”, if we were down total $ sales we would work as a team to get it back up. Your floor was yours, from merchandising down to cleaning the dust bunnies and making sure your department passed the white glove test. I had a team that I helped to grow and train, I would would always work along side them, because that is what my mentors did with their floors. We were taught to never ask one of your employees to do something that you wouldn’t do, you were in the trenches with them. Everyone who works at Nordstrom starts as a sales associate, because working with customers so closely gives you the ability to really lead. Even back then I so badly wanted a job in marketing. Companies just didn’t see the value in social media yet. But I wouldn’t trade those first 3 years of my career with Nordstrom for anything. It wasn’t the sparkly and shiney job that some of fellow peers came out of college having, but I have carried the work ethic I learned there with me every step. The experience created an intregal foundation for me that has allowed me to become the leader that I am. #Nordstrom has positively impacted me forever. Once a Nordy Girl always a #NordyGirl ??

Today, October 6th marks exactly five months since I joined Inditex(Massimo Dutti) as a Sales Assistant. This milestone inspires me to keep working harder and to reflect on the journey that brought me here. After finishing the first semester of my master’s program, I was determined to find a part-time job. I applied to several positions and finally landed an interview with M&S Food. I thought this role would be a great opportunity to learn about the brand, its operations, in-store marketing, and supply chain management. I arrived two hours early for the interview, excited to observe how the store could improve customer experience. The interview went well, but I soon discovered the role involved less about branding and more about early shifts moving delivery boxes. Despite the disappointment, I stayed hopeful, but when the rejection email came, I was crushed. Instead of staying idle, I took action—walking into every restaurant in Kingston with my CV in hand. That night, I found a part-time job as a scullery assistant. It was tough, with 10-hour weekend shifts, but I stuck it out. After 1.5 months, I was thrilled when my manager suggested training me for the shop floor. Around the same time, I applied to the Inditex Talent Centre for a Sales Assistant position. On the day of the interview, I took a deep breath and visualized myself as a tiger—ready to fight for my place. Despite feeling a bit intimidated by the stylish candidates around me, I confidently answered the question about what makes Inditex brands stand out: their efficient supply chain and just-in-time production strategy. A few hours later, I received an email confirming my success, and soon I joined Massimo Dutti at their Oxford Street store in London. Recently, I requested a transfer to Kingston to accommodate my second semester at the university. Now, as I approach graduation and look toward future marketing roles, I’m excited to embrace new challenges and see where this journey takes me next! #CareerJourney #SalesAssistant #InternationalStudent #HardWorkPaysOff #RetailExperience #GrowthMindset #MarketingStudent #MassimoDutti #Inditex #CareerDevelopment #JustInTime #SupplyChainManagement #MarketingJobs #LondonLife

If I were hired for a beauty retail leadership position focused on store sales and team management for holiday shopping, I’d focus on a few key areas: 1. Team Training: I’d organize training sessions to ensure everyone is well-versed in our products, promotions, and holiday specials. This way, they can provide exceptional customer service. 2. Inventory Management: I’d conduct a thorough inventory check to ensure we have enough stock of popular items and holiday bundles. I'd also prioritize restocking high-demand products. 3. Visual Merchandising: I’d create festive displays that highlight gift sets and seasonal products, making the store inviting and visually appealing. 4. Promotions Planning: I’d develop targeted promotions and loyalty incentives to encourage holiday shopping, including bundle deals and limited-time offers. 5. Scheduling: I’d adjust staff schedules to ensure we have adequate coverage during peak shopping times, helping us to manage customer flow and maintain service quality. 6. Customer Engagement: I’d encourage the team to engage with customers, offering personalized recommendations and creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere. With these steps, I’d aim to create a seamless and enjoyable holiday shopping experience for our customers. If you are currently hiring for beauty store management positions direct message me. I will like to connect and learn more about your opportunities. #HireMe #AccountExecutive #PassionForBeauty #AssistantMgmt #StoreMgmt #OpenToRelocate #FlexibleSchedule

I networked my way into my dream job at Nike. Here’s exactly how I did it. Getting into Nike was never about crafting the best resume. It started with a curiosity to understand what the world of sales looked like at Nike. Here’s the exact message I sent that opened the door: 1. I sent a personalized connection request to directors at Nike after typing in "nike sales" in the LinkedIn search bar. One of the very first people to respond to me was a Nike Sales Director in New York. 2. I crafted a value-driven message. I introduced myself, let her know the reason why I was reaching out, and shared my passion for the brand. 3. Made it easy for her to say yes. I understood her time was valuable, so I offered flexibility: "If I can work around your schedule, could we have a short 15-minute call over Zoom? I’m very flexible. If it’s 6 a.m., count me in because your time would be invaluable to me." 4. Showed genuine enthusiasm and respect. My message was sincere, respectful of her time, and driven by a genuine desire to learn. The result? A 1.5h conversation that led me to my dream job at Nike. She was able to connect me with various people within her Nike network following our call. And before I knew it, I was having informational interviews with Nike employees globally. One of the people that I spoke with ended up connecting me with the President of Nike Canada. The rest is history. Prior to this experience, I had never networked by sending a cold message on LinkedIn. People want to help. All you have to do is ask. PS: If you’re looking to make a similar pivot, focus on building genuine connections. Create opportunities for yourself by putting yourself out there. ?? Repost this if you found it helpful.
