Keith Crisco?- Harvard MBA, White House Fellow, Founder of Asheboro Elastics, NC Secretary of Commerce and SO much more is the member who re-invented the AAPN.? ? I first met Keith at the 2000 AAFA Annual Conference. I was matched up blind to a golf foursome with Keith. We had SO MUCH fun together. He joined AAPN and initiated a major change to our format. ? In 2003, at our conference in Montreal, someone asked a question about China. Keith said, “Mike, I just got back from 2 weeks in China, can I address this question?”. He did … for two hours. That was when we realized the best speakers in the?industry?were our own members.? ? In 2005, Keith helped organize our delegation to Hong Kong. He took us under his wing. He never missed a meeting, in fact he helped plan all of them. He invited us to El Salvador when he opened a new elastic factory there. He was high profile across everything we did.? ? In 2014, Keith passed away suddenly during his run for US Congress, to represent NC. His legacy continues with our agendas packed with experts - our members.? ? The Change??There is bottomless wisdom everywhere. You just have to ask, then listen. Keith showed us that we are all story tellers, and that we can all learn forward together. The 2024 ICA Global Conference in New Delhi will be Jeroen Douglas’s first as ICA Director-General. What are the top 3?? things participants should look forward to? "This year’s edition will be packed with all kinds of wonderful features. We’ll have the launch of the UN International Year of Cooperatives 2025 with a keynote address by the Secretary General of the United Nations António Guterres; we expect to have dignitaries from India, Asia and further to give strong footage to the event and elevate the conference into a truly world-changing and world-class event. We also expect some inspirational leaders with strong keynote messages for a prosperous world. I cannot reveal the names yet as we are in the closing phase, but it’s all about the revival of #cooperatives, and a plea for a more sustainable economic future. We’ll also have a #coops film festival and an expo for #coops who wish to show their goods and services. We'll have cultural events and a #coopathon for the youth. There will be so much to see and do. It is our aspiration to build the best Global Conference in the history of the ICA." INDUSTRY NETWORKING: People Who Changed My Life - Carlos Arias ? Who have?you?met that changed your life, your career, even your very?being? I met my list at AAPN events. For example: ? I met?Carlos Arias?in early 2001, in Guatemala City. He was the first industry executive I met in Central America. As I extended my right hand to?shake his, I?handed?him an article on China and apparel. He was?handing?me the SAME article! ? In 2003, I asked Carlos if I could attend his Koramsa meeting of suppliers, 85 companies, 250 people. At lunch he wished me good luck. For what I replied? You’re the opening speaker. This was no notice. He knew I could do it, which was typical Carlos.? ? He opened that meeting with the amazing quote, "It is so wonderful to be a room full of world-class suppliers. Unfortunately, there is not a world-class supply chain in the room." He was upset that some suppliers were calling directly on his customers, causing supply chain issues.? ? His analogy of why the region was so fragmented industrially was summed up when he said, "The companies of the region are like crabs in a bucket, when one tries to escape, the others pull him back in." In 2010, Carlos became the first person we ever asked to be president of AAPN who wasn’t on our Board. He agreed to do it only if he could be very active. He has remained a core member of our leadership since 2010, 14 years.? ? Carlos has never missed a meeting. He has always done everything we asked of him. He brought us into countless meetings in Guatemala. He remains positive about, believes in and gives his time to the industry. ? THE CHANGE??Tom Peters said your true core network will rarely number more than a dozen people. Carlos remains one of those core people, the most interesting man in the world, who always says the right thing.
