What is a “broken rung,” and how can we collectively fix it? A “broken rung” means gender inequality at the first step of frontline management, where men significantly outnumber women when they are promoted from entry-level roles to manager positions. This gender gap at the first step of the manager level makes it very difficult for women to catch up and advance further in their careers, creating a “broken rung” on the corporate ladder. It's on all of us, but especially leaders, to fix this broken system. An inclusive culture that promotes diverse voices is not just the right thing to do - it's good for business. Here are some things we can start with:? ? Recognizing and addressing microaggressions in the workplace ? Empowering and advocating for women, especially women of color ?
