Skyroot Aerospace has achieved a significant milestone by successfully test-firing the stage-2 propulsion system of the Vikram-1 rocket. Named Kalam-250. This high-strength carbon composite motor is designed to transition the rocket from the atmospheric phase to outer space. The test, conducted at ISRO's Satish Dhawan Space Centre, recorded a peak sea-level thrust of 186 kilonewtons, a crucial step towards the upcoming orbital launch of the Vikram-1 rocket. Co-founder and CEO of Skyroot Aerospace, Pawan Chandana, highlighted the successful validation of critical systems like the flex nozzle control during the test. The stage-2 motor features advanced components, including a carbon ablative flex nozzle and electro-mechanical actuators for precise thrust vector control. With support from ISRO's Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre and Solar Industries, Skyroot Aerospace is on track for its maiden orbital launch of Vikram-1 in 2024, following previous successful tests of Kalam-100 and Vikram-S. #aerospace #EngineeringExcellence #Rockets #spaceexploration

I braved the un-seasonal weather to get a test launch made yesterday at the East Anglian Rocketry Society event in Cambridgeshire. The first prototype of our improved 'Jackdaw 2' CanSat carrier rockets made a picture-perfect flight and recovery marking the 120th high power solid fuel rocket I've launched in 2024 (and about the 2400th I've ever launched). The Jackdaw 2-A was built as part of our 'Launch-Me' initiative for the UK Space Agency which will see two such rockets, plus one of our larger 'Artemis' rockets, built to carry over 40 student built CanSat and CubeSat satellites into the atmosphere over the next year and a half. We already have parts made to assemble seven more of these rockets and, once proven, the design will also be used for our other CanSat launches in the future too. The fully re-useable rocket is about 30cm (1ft) longer than the older 'Jackdaw' design we've been using for the past few years and it's main improvement is an aluminium coupling joint around the top of the motor section which allows the upper or lower sections of airframe to be replaced if damaged, without having to replace the whole rocket. It also gives easier access to the Kevlar recovery harness which holds the metal piston that pushes the CanSat out and retains the rocket's own recovery parachute. #rockets #rocketscience #ukspace #rocketlaunch #STEMeducation

Modeling and Experimental Results of Low-Power Iodine-Fed Hall Thruster Propulsion System ?? Hall thrusters have become the leading technology of plasma based propulsion systems for in-orbit maneuvering due to their remarked efficiency, thrust density, and scalability at small power ranges. However, the volume as well as the direct and indirect cost of a Hall thruster propulsion system are the primary constraining factors for use on small-sized industrial spacecraft, both of which are partially related to the chosen propellant. Combining iodine propellant and Hall thruster technology is a logical and necessary step to ensure high performance in space maneuvering with extremely reduced costs. At ThrustMe, we are making this revolutionary technology and product come true. Come check out Dr Alfio E. Vinci's presentation at the IEPC: ?? Date & Time: June 26, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM ?? Session: S6-8: HET / Propellants, Room Ariane 1 #hallthruster #iodine #plasma #newdevelopment #spacepropulsion #propulsion #space #IEPC #IEPC2024
