Achieving certification is only half of training. Remembering WHY something is important when you're applying it is the other. When you're in a training room, listening to a presentation, you should feel engaged, able to understand the topic and feel like you come away with a better understanding. Really good training uses real life examples, so that when you pick up a soldering iron, or inspect a circuit board, you remember the real life examples and lessons shared in that training, and can apply it to what you're doing. #IPCtraining #electronicsmanufacturing #competence

Electronics assembly for most should be following J-STD-001 and associated specifications. J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 Acceptance of Electronic Assemblies both state "Proficiency" as the desired acceptance criteria of the individual performing the task. As athlete's and students each may need a different method based on their method of learning there is no one way to teach the skills needed to be a proficient and skilled electronics technician. Mentoring and monitoring to understand the technical capacity of a given individual would be a great place to start, understand how they tick then apply basic training slowly and build to mastery. To many people send operators to J-STD-001 certification training without having "proficiency" or even a sound understanding of soldering, that is setting them up for failure. The great basketball coach John Wooden created the 8 laws of learning; namely, explanation, demonstration, imitation, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition! Good Luck!
