This week’s book shoutout resonates deeply with what our tools provide. Often, when children are tasked with a Family Tree assignment, the templates they receive don’t reflect the unique and often complex networks of family members and guardians, especially for those who have been adopted or are in foster care. Our Family Connections tool allows professionals to create custom family trees tailored to each child’s situation. We appreciate how this book highlights the challenge of using a ‘simple’ family tree template when many stories are more complex and nuanced! ?? TITLE: The Family Tree AUTHOR: Sean Dixon GENRE: Children’s Book FROM AMAZON: A family tree assignment leads an adopted girl to discover the different ways to be a family. When her teacher gives her class a simple family tree assignment, Ada is stumped. How can she make her family fit into this simple template? Ada is adopted. She can see where to put her parents on the tree, but what about her birth mom? Ada has a biological sister, but her sister has different adoptive parents — where do they go on the tree? But with the help of her friends and family, Ada figures it out. She creates her family tree . . . and so much more. Loosely based on the author's own experience, this moving story explores the different ways families are created and how the modern family is more diverse and welcoming than ever before. Let's breathe new life into how we care for our most vulnerable. #TimeForChange The care system protects countless children every year, but for many involved, it feels more like a barren landscape than a nurturing haven. While acknowledging the challenges staff, professionals, foster carers, and children face is crucial, I believe despair won't pave the way for progress. We need innovative solutions, not just dwelling on the damage. Like the image I saw recently - of a desolate coral reef slowly overtaken by new growth - we can nurture seeds of positive change within the care system. I know at times people become frustrated with my focus on the positive strides I see and the desire to drive forward creative solutions. For me we can’t get to regeneration without moving past the dispair of the damage done. We have to move beyond it, we have to seek solutions and nurture the tentative routes of change. Every chance we create conversation in this space we have the opportunity to find that possibilty and help it grow. I know those budding possibilities feel all to distant and far apart at times. But if we don’t seek out those chances we will fail to help them flourish. Focusing on the positive strides we can take isn't ignoring the problems; it's the fuel that drives creative solutions. Join me in fostering a thriving care system that truly supports all involved! #EveryChildMatters #BuildingABetterFuture #fostered #fosteredfutures #careexperienced #changeiscoming

Am thrilled to share such a kind heart of mentoring babies with Barbara, Director Sanyu Baby's home. FAMILY IS KEY Imagine you didn't have a family to grow graze you, instill good morals and values in you, where would be now? Who would cater for your hospital bills?, who would have given you the first plate of food? A family is one of the greatest gifts of life. That's why every child deserves a home. The reason is simple, as compared to child support centers, a family builds physical, emotional and psychological bonds between parents and children, we all desire to have a place we call home. Okay, if these kids remain in support centers, where will they call home?,where will their introduction ceremonies be? Whenever we advance in age, we start searching for our homes and plan for retirement, will these kids go back to latrines, sewage, hospitals pavements, drainage chanels, or polythene bags as a home, who is their support system? Whom can they call incase of an emergency KINDLY BE THAT PERSON Adoption, fostering are key in dealing with the identity crisis in abandoned kids.

This time last year I was 4 days away from becoming a full-time, single foster parent to two sisters. I was hopeful, under equipped and about to enter into 6 months of taking a pop quiz I hadn't studied for every day as a first-time parent. I learned SO MUCH about our foster systems and how they're doing the best they can to support families living through extreme brokenness. I encountered the generational impact of trauma and was both encouraged by little successes in a day and devastated by the cards some kids are dealt. Though I chose not to renew my license, I'm so glad I stepped into this role. I'm grateful for what it taught me. Sometimes that's the best way to learn, just jump off the cliff and see what awaits. If you know someone who is a foster parent, here are a few ways you can offer support: 1 - Offer to make a meal or drop off a gift card for food. Removing the prep work, planning, shopping and cook time of a meal or two helps to reclaim valuable mental energy. 2 - Ask to hear their story. A place to vent was incredibly helpful, just to get it out. There was so much that felt so heavy to process and talking it out with someone helped me to understand what I couldn't process on my own. 3 - Offer to get a background check with the agency and take the kids for an afternoon or drive them to one of the many appointments they have throughout the week. Sending light, love and safety to all those attached to the foster care system. Did you know? ?? For the first time since before Texas CASA’s founding 35 years ago, the state is updating how it pays for foster care services through Texas Child-Centered Care. The goal is to improve outcomes for children in foster care, including those in Community-Based Care areas, while recognizing + compensating caregivers for delivering high-quality services. Help us support local CASA programs face these transitions with the support, training and tools necessary to succeed: bit.ly/FosterCareMonth24

Fostering Awareness Week: A Time to Reflect As we approach Fostering Awareness Week, we are reminded of the incredible impact #fostercare has on the lives of vulnerable children. Imagine a world where every child feels the warmth of a loving home, where they can flourish and thrive despite the challenges they may face. But sadly, this isn't the reality for far too many children. They're longing for stability, for someone to believe in them, to provide guidance and love. Next week serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of fostering. Fostering isn't just about providing a roof over a child's head; it's about offering hope, healing, and a chance for a brighter future. It's about stepping up when others can't, and making a lasting difference in someone's life. So, as we approach Fostering Awareness Week, let's not just think about statistics or numbers. Let's think about the faces behind those numbers, the stories that often go untold. Let's consider how each one of us can play a part, whether it's through becoming a foster carer, supporting foster families, or simply spreading awareness. Together, let's create a world where every child knows they are valued, cherished, and deserving of love. #FosteringAwareness #MakeADifference #fostercarers #growinghope
