Energy is only PART of the story. Those servers are made of metal, connected by cables made of metal, with energy supplied by the big grid, which is will need to double in size by 2050 to accomodate the vision of the Energy Transition. That’s 111 million kilometers of high voltage, ultra high voltage and super duper high voltage cables made of mostly steel and aluminum. It’s great that there is an awareness of AI impact on energy use and climate-addling GHG emissions. But the even bigger story is materials. So. I’ll ask again.
