ALX MASTERCLASS SERIES HIGHLIGHTS I was privileged to join the maiden edition of the ALX Level-up Masterclass. In the Masterclass, among other things, Barnabas Nii Laryea indicated how important it was to develop the ability to identify and tell stories and offer value using our social media platforms. Most importantly, he mentioned how important it was to have a good reputation. He recounted a story of his, involving a tyre supplier who sent him about 10,000 cedis worth of tyres without payment. The seller had a high sense of assurance and jokingly said to him that if anything bad were to happen, he would have reached out to Big Godwin or Selorm (Barnabas Nii Laryea's friends) for payment. Since that conversation, I have dedicated myself to looking out for stories in my experiences and telling them in a compelling way. I have noticed a surge in my activity on social media as I started using my platform to inform and educate my network of friends. I barely started, but my goal is to get to a point where I can craft stories using data and share my insights within my network. ?? Reflecting on the Past to Drive the Future ?? Over the past few weeks I’ve had the privilege of diving into the rich history that this organisation is built upon, and the team here have given a real insight as to why the National Pest Technicians Association was founded and what it set out to achieve. The image below is of programs from #PestTech that I stumbled upon in the office, which has given me a profound sense of where this event has come from and just how far it has grown over the years. From its humble beginnings, I’m led to believe being held at Nottingham university with 4 exhibitors to the Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham to what we all know and love the event is currently today held at the Stadium MK. PestTech has evolved into the largest event of its kind in the UK—offering invaluable insights, networking opportunities, and a platform for the pest control community to come together. This year we have 74 exhibitors which is phenomenal support from the industry and recognition that this is a great event to be at!! The event is so special because of the perfect cocktail that has been created by the industry - from the hard work that the NPTA team do to organise the event, the amazing exhibitors who come back year after year, and the people of the pest control industry who come to the event. Seeing this progression fills me with pride and excitement for the future. It's clear that our foundation is strong, and we are well place to continue the legacy started by our founding Members - my role as CEO is to continue that journey and ensure that the #NPTA supports pest control professionals at every level irrespective of size. Its little bits like the below that that really leave me excited for what lies ahead for PestTech 2024, which is just two weeks away now!! but it also makes me stop and think at some point someone else will look back at my time as CEO. They are a fantastic way to spark fresh ideas, gain insights from experts and understand industry trends through the lived experience of others. I find they provide inspiration, practical takeaways, and a chance to connect with peers.
