Are the days of the typical search engine over? With the rise of AI based search products, I’ve found myself using Google MUCH less…and some days never. The current experience on Google: Get hit with 20+ results (with half of them paid ads). Then, comb through pages of results and try to combine multiple data sources to get the answer you're looking for. AI tools like Perplexity are providing a much richer experience with 1 result...no ads (yet) and the ability to add on follow up questions. It’s going to be funny one day to say we used to “Google” things….just like we had a phone book to look things up.

?? E-COMMERCE SEO MANAGERS - CYA ALERT ?? Google is testing how they integrate an AI Sales Assistant in the SERPs. You will want to get ahead of this and alert management so they are thinking about strategies (pricing, indexing, etc.). NOTICE IN THE VIDEO: ?? The Google Sales Assistant is right beneath the organic listing. ?? The Google Sales Assistant looks like it's from Kitchen Warehouse. ?? The Google Sales Assistant lets you explain what you are looking for, such as a non-stick pan. ?? Then... the sales assistant gives text on considerations when purchasing a non-stick pan---like you get from a really good sales clerk at the store! ?? Then... the user sees a product carousel right in the SERPs. The good news... at least for now, the carousel is only products from the site. BUT I WONDER IN THE FUTURE: ?? What if: what the user was looking for isn't what Google feels is at that site? ?? What if: what the user is looking for is high quality, but your products aren't really a match? You have less features, lower prices, and lower quality than say William Sonoma... would Google still only display your product? NOW LET'S TALK OPERATIONS: ?? How do you handle this? With care. It's not mainstream yet. ?? Alert executives on what is happening in Google's SERPs so that they can start strategizing and make pivots in areas such as content. ?? If you are a company LACKING informational content that can SWAY the user toward you special coating, fabric, technology, etc. then you need to publish a lot of content out there about it so that the sales assistant can talk about that (along with ChatGPT and other AI tools). ?? Discuss with management that if we don't add useful sales clerk informational text about our products, then we don't even have a shot at influencing what Google Sales Assistant, ChatGPT or any other third party says about our products.
