I noticed that Inquiry-based learning did not make the top 10 list of High Impact Teaching Strategies, so I did a bit of thinking and digging around the meta analysis. What I found was that inquiry is embedded in almost every strategy and that certain strategies outside of this top 10 where inquiry is highly embedded, have an effect size much higher than those in the top 10. I unpack all this in episode 36 of the Blooming Curious podcast, where I also give Trevor MacKenzie and Kath Murdoch's books a plug. https://lnkd.in/gmm8uFeX

It is mostly focused on formal education and hosted by an American educator, Jennifer Gonzalez, though many episodes have relevance for Europeans, those in informal education and the management fields too. Following our recent newsletter on the topic of evaluation, the latest episode looks at a particular approach to getting feedback from both staff, and young people & children (semantic pulse surveys) that we think has a wider application than just to schools. Education is ever changing. Science is evolving and we are looking into areas of human psyche that was previously taboo. An interesting Podcast to connect in with as we reach the end of Neurodiversity week is Emily Kircher-Morris' Neurodiversity Podcast. There are many I have played on my drives home that have solidified or improved my practice as a leader and teacher of Gifted Education. My favourite topics of hers are: Interoception and ODD https://lnkd.in/gS9RX4J7

??? Episode 3 Highlight with Christopher Roblesz- Strengthening Content Knowledge for K-5 Teachers. Full Episode: https://buff.ly/3UdFzT4 ??? Christopher Roblesz, a passionate advocate for educational reform, sheds light on a critical issue in the world of elementary education in a recent conversation with James O'Neal. Discussing the multifaceted role of elementary teachers, Roblesz reveals the prevailing trend where these educators, often without specialized expertise, are entrusted with teaching diverse subjects. Drawing attention to the certification process, he points out that elementary teachers, certified for a broad range of subjects, may find themselves teaching anything from PE to science. In this compelling soundbite, Roblesz unveils the transformative shift some schools are adopting. Recognizing the need for subject matter expertise, there's a growing effort to assign specific subjects to dedicated teachers. He emphasizes the crucial need, particularly in the African American community and inner-city school districts, for professional development and specialization at the elementary level. By doing so, these educators can become true content experts, ensuring the effective delivery of essential subjects like math and science. This insightful conversation urges listeners to reflect on the structural challenges within elementary education, prompting a call to action. Join Mastery For All with Mr. James O'Neal, where impactful discussions like these unfold. Download the podcast now, share the knowledge, hit like, and subscribe for more eye-opening insights into the dynamics shaping our education system. ??? #MasteryForAll #Math #MathEducation #Education #Speaker #Consultant #Teacher #Transformative #Podcast #Racism #Learning #School #Edreform #STEM #EdLeadership.
