How do we learn, and where should learning take place in a world shaped by ongoing disruptions? This question is at the heart of What About Learning?, a studio led by Deborah Saunt (DSDHA) at Yale School of Architecture. Set against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, this book explores how architectural education evolved, touching on disembodied learning, civic participation, and the role of the built environment in shaping knowledge exchange. Through collective analysis of YSoA’s shifting physical and virtual conditions, along with research into alternative learning models like The University of the Underground and the The London School of Architecture, students questioned traditional pedagogies and reimagined spatial possibilities for learning. Their projects—shaped by lockdown experiences—proposed new ways of engaging with personal and communal learning spaces. ?? This book also includes insights from a cross-disciplinary symposium featuring voices from activism, planning, and pedagogy, fostering deeper conversations on the future of education and the built environment.
