The #transportation division of Liebherr Group -Transport Systems has secured a significant contract with Swiss #manufacturer Stadler to supply 80 heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (#HVAC) systems for #train cars. This is the first serial order for Liebherr for such systems, highlighting the importance of this event for the company. Deliveries of the climate control systems will begin in mid-September 2024 and continue until the end of 2026. These systems are intended for 20 FLIRT #electric trains ordered by the Finnish national carrier VR Group in the fall of 2022. The #contract includes an option to supply another 50 trains, which could significantly expand the volume of cooperation between the companies. To develop a system that meets strict safety standards, Liebherr collaborated with the TüV SüD testing center. The company’s portfolio already included air conditioning systems using air and carbon dioxide as refrigerants. However, this time propane was chosen, due to its #environmental benefits and high reliability. The train car #ventilation and air conditioning systems also feature #innovative ventilation units, improving air exchange in the train cars and enhancing passenger comfort. The advantage of propane as a refrigerant lies in its minimal environmental impact. The collaboration between Liebherr and Stadler aims to create more eco-friendly and efficient #transport, aligning with global #sustainability trends. Modern climate control systems for train cars play a key role in ensuring comfortable conditions for passengers, which is especially important for long-term journeys. The development of eco-friendly technologies in transport contributes to reducing the #carbonfootprint and improving quality of life. The contract between Liebherr and Stadler is an important step in this direction, showing how major industrial players can collaborate to achieve common goals in #sustainable development. A recent ADAC study highlights the need for significant improvements in charging infrastructure for electric vehicles at highway service areas in Germany. Of the 40 sites tested along major highways, 43% offered only slow charging stations, with many capped at just 50 kW. This is far from adequate for reducing charging times, especially on long-distance journeys. Key findings include: ? Only 21 of the service areas had fast chargers (150 kW+), and just four offered High-Power-Charging (300 kW+). ? Some areas still lack any EV charging infrastructure at all. ? Limited charging points: Six of the sites with fast chargers had no more than three points, with an average of just four per location. ADAC suggests that a modern charging park should have at least 10 points to meet demand. ? Comfort is lacking compared to traditional fuel stations. Only two sites had covered charging points, and towing vehicles continue to face challenges with access. ? Payment options remain a concern, especially with security risks associated with using QR codes for payment. ADAC emphasises the need for more secure, card-terminal-based systems. For the future of e-mobility to thrive, especially for long-distance travel, expanding the charging infrastructure must become a priority. ADAC calls for charging parks with at least 10 fast chargers (150 kW+) at every service area, as well as better signage and weather protection.
