A template is an unbiased average of a population (here, healthy) that allows to characterize the structures in unprecedented details and that facilitates the study of related diseases. Registrations are open for the 1st Edition of the ADVANCED TRAINING IN NEW IN VITRO MODELS: ALTERNATIVES TO ANIMAL MODELS IN RESEARCH, at NOVA Medical School - Faculdade de Ciências Médicas. This course, organized by Claudia Nunes dos Santos and me, is the first in Portugal to explore emerging in vitro models such as organoids and microphysiological systems. Eighteen researchers from eight national institutions and a top foreign institution will present examples of how these new models can be applied to fundamental and pre-clinical studies involving a variety of organs (retina, brain, intestine, liver, lungs, skin, breast, heart, tonsil, vascular system, among others) and several diseases.
