"The training opened my eyes to the world of online marketplaces and digital payment systems. I now sell my produce online, reaching more customers and earning better prices,” shared Ayo Iyanda, a smallholder farmer in Kwara State, Nigeria. Women manage?70% of?Nigeria’s smallholder agricultural production and processing — cultivating crops like maize, cassava, and paddy. Yet only 10% of capital invested in the agricultural sector is available to women. International Day of #RuralWomen highlights the critical role rural women play in steering global food systems — from crop production to sale of harvest — despite facing systemic challenges like unequal access to education, technology, and financial services. Accion worked alongside HerVest and New Faces New Voices Nigeria, to empower women farmers and micro entrepreneurs with the information, skills, market access, and capital they need to overcome the social and geographic barriers to financial inclusion.
