Today is Global Accessibility Awareness Day??? It’s a day to get everyone talking, thinking, and learning about digital accessibility inclusion, as well as people with different disabilities. To celebrate, we’re spotlighting a beautiful example of digital content done right: The University of Manchester's accessible brochure. Here’s what makes this Doc so great: ??- ???????????????????? ???????????? ???? ?????????? ???????????????????? ??????????: This is an essential feature for readers who find moving backgrounds distracting. ??- ???????????????????? ???????? ?????? ??????????????: We must remember users who rely on screen readers to access content. Screen readers use the alt text of your CTAs and buttons to convey their function to the user. ??- ?????? ???????????????????? ???? ???????????? ????????????????????: The tab key is an important ally for users who can’t use the mouse to navigate content. ??- ?????????? ?????????? ??????????????????: Enough contrast between the text and its background is necessary to make text readable for people with low vision. If you’d like to learn more about what you can do to make your content more accessible, check out the link in the comments! ?? #AccessibilityAwareness #GlobalAccessibilityAwarenessDay

Specific technical standards for web content have been formally added to Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act that may impact your existing digital content. It's a significant task, but a huge step towards inclusivity. https://lnkd.in/eAUxuYce

The European Accessibility Act (EAA), which will take effect in 2025, isn’t just legislation—it’s a pivotal moment for the 87 million people living with disabilities across Europe. The EAA reminds us that technology should serve everyone, and accessibility testing is the key to making that a reality. It’s about creating a digital world where no one is left behind. Join Rachael Yomtoob, Product Owner - axe DevTools Mobile at Deque Systems, Inc, and Marcus Merrell, Principal Technical Advisor at Sauce Labs, and me for an in-depth conversation on: ? How the EAA will empower people with disabilities ? Key steps for achieving full EAA compliance ? Practical tips to ensure your accessibility testing is truly inclusive Together, let’s craft a future where every digital experience is built with empathy and designed for all. Today is Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) created to draw attention to and encourage conversation and action around digital access and inclusion for people with disabilities. Digital accessibility is not hard; you can make a big impact on access TODAY with these 4 quick and easy changes. I encourage you, in the spirit of GAAD and to support the Civil Rights of all, to give it a try. 1) Be sure that any video you post (homemade or from YouTube) has accurate closed captions. No captions? Add them yourself, or pick another video. 2) Anytime you post a picture to your favorite Social Media site (or add one to a document, website, or email) look for the Alternate or ALT Text option and add a 1-2 sentence description of the image. 3) Making a PPT, Keynote, or Google Slides presentation? Use the built-in slide templates without moving content around or adding more fields. No template that matches your needs? Go to the Master Template and make one! 4) Use the built-in "Styles" to create Headings in documents, posted content, web pages, blogs, etc. (No more highlighting the title, centering it on the page, and clicking "bold".)

Today, we celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), and I’m thrilled to share some exciting news from Recite Me: the launch of our new training course! Since discovering I’m dyslexic, I’ve been on a mission to create a more inclusive world. IDPD is a powerful reminder to reflect on the progress we’ve made, celebrate the advocates driving change, and recommit to building a future where accessibility is a priority. One area where this change is gaining momentum is with the European Accessibility Act (EAA). Coming into effect on June 28, 2025, the EAA extends accessibility requirements to private companies with over 10 employees and a £2 million turnover. This is a huge step forward for creating a more inclusive digital world—and we’re here to help you get ready. Our new training course offers an in-depth look at the EAA and provides practical guidance on how to make your websites compliant. Best of all, it’s completely free. Check out the link below to access the course, and let’s make accessibility a priority. Happy IDPD! https://lnkd.in/eNUji3GW #IDPD #InternationalDayOfPersonsWithDisabilities #Accessibility Alt Text: Video opens with text that reads "New European Accessibility Training Course" and an illustration of a laptop with the Recite Me Accessibility Checker open. Text then reads "that provides you with the knowledge and practical tools needed to ensure your digital environments meet EAA requirements by the 2025 deadline". The video continues and the text reads "Topics include: the fundamentals of accessibility, the benefits of accessibility, EAA compliance requirements and practical tools for compliance." Closing screen reads "Sign up for free today".
