Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa (AICCRA)的动态

???? “We think the Kenyan example can be replicated in other countries, that’s why we’re sharing the experience of what we’ve done,” said Laura Cramer, AICCRA policy lead, during a #COP28 session at the #Kenya Pavilion. “Climate action happens on the ground, on the farms. Through the multi-stakeholder platform, we’re able to bring the farmers into those decision-making processes." The event included representatives from government, science, policy, finance, development & farming to share the wins of how we're supporting community-led climate action through the Kenya Climate Smart Agriculture Multi Stakeholder Platform (KenyaCSAMSP). The CSA-MSP approach has brought together multi-sectoral actors on a shared challenge & given us a platform to complement each other's efforts in mainstreaming climate action in Kenya's agriculture. “Climate action does not happen in boardrooms, climate action will happen at the community level and for that, we need a multi-stakeholder approach,” said moderator Telvin Denje. Bernard Kimoro, Kenya Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, spoke of both policies and participation being necessary. A robust policy framework has created an enabling environment, but coordinated participation from all involved actors is what results in climate action. Elizabeth Adobi Okwuosa (KALRO), Nancy Rapando (WWF) and Elijah Isabu (Equity Bank Limited) - representing research, development and finance - highlighted the value of a locally-led, multi-stakeholder platform in connecting different sectors to address a common challenge. “Remember it is the farmer who implements these policies and the results of the research. It is the farmer on the ground…so higher consideration should be given to the farmer, more involved and more literature to be communicated in a language they can understand.” Phoebe Mwangangi, a farmer from Makueni County, Kenya. “It is incredible to hear what is happening in Kenya…I think that it is an example to follow…so many countries, not only in Africa, but in different continents can learn from this. Yes, there are gaps, but I’m happy to hear them because otherwise it’s hard to address them. If we are not clear about the gaps, if we are not clear about what can be done better, it’s really hard to move forward, to improve.” Ana Maria Loboguerrero, AICCRA Director, gave the closing remarks focused on the two themes that ran through the event and which form the core of AICCRA's approach: partnerships and capacity enhancement. The key takeaway of the event was a recognition of the progress that has been made through the Kenya CSA-MSP so far, recognizing that, “Coming together is the beginning. Coming together and staying together is progress. But coming together, staying together and working together is success.” - Patrick Kibaya, Head of the Ministry Climate Change Unit and Chair of the CSA MSP Steering Committee.
