This semester, I was an intern for Stream Station, a streaming service that claims that their mission is to be a “solution for businesses and organizations that have unique communication needs”. They help broadcast programming for organizations that submit their content through streaming. They also do “live shot”, where people can be broadcasted live for things such as news organizations, podcasts, interviews, etc. I am not fully aware of any competitors that Stream Station has at the moment, however, I do know that there are many jobs around Charlotte for broadcasting and television.
Over the past semester, Stream Station has been in the process of labeling and taking inventory of all of their equipment to ensure security and proper count of assets. My main job was to do this and find out how much each piece of equipment was worth. While doing this, I learned how various pieces of equipment work and are important in the broadcasting and streaming process. I also worked on organizing various cables, shelves, and other pieces of equipment to ensure a more efficient work environment. With the amount of heavy lifting and the vast amount of equipment Stream Station owns, teamwork was absolutely essential to accomplishing tasks. While I have learned many things at my internship, Stream Station has also taken advantage of the skills? I have learned in non-work contexts. For example, I have experience in printing T-shirts. When my supervisor heard this, he asked if I could print some Stream Station T-shirts for their clients, to which I did.
In conclusion, my experience at Stream Station was nothing but pleasant. My supervisor, Fred, gave me some great advice based on various stories he told me about his career in broadcasting. I plan on applying this knowledge in order to achieve my professional goals. Classes, such as Mass Communication & Society (COMM 3121) and Media, Technology, and Communications (COMM 3120) prepared me to know what the purpose of broadcasting and streaming is, and how it has developed over the years. Overall, I have nothing but good things to say about Stream Station.?
