“But if you really are talking to the most people who love our city, the most reasonable people, most people agree that we need to have some type of transit on the Beltline.”-Clyde Higgs, CEO of Atlanta Beltline Inc. at the recent Axios Atlanta What’s Next Forum, October 2024. After more than a year of retreat on even saying the words Beltline and transit in the same sentence, Beltline CEO Clyde Higgs said these to Axios reporter Thomas Wheatley. And while we are still not sure what Mayor Andre Dickens thinks about the future of the city’s long-held plans for light rail on the Beltline (he will make his decision public in January 2025), we take heart at what Higgs said at Axios. It’s clear what Higgs believes is an essential need for Atlanta’s explosive growth: regionally coordinated plans that include Beltline transit, where we can start building out Atlanta’s transit network core to serve the city AND the region. See more of Higgs’ 12-minute interview about Beltline rail on our YouTube Channel at https://lnkd.in/gbcQMzSX or click the link in our profile. #stayontracklightrail #beltlinerailnow #beltlinerail #howidfixatlanta #constructionstarts2025 #atlantaequity

Dr. David Alff's talk, "How the Northeast Became an Acela Corridor" is now available on the Alexandria Historical Society YouTube channel! There were some technical difficulties with the Zoom platform that night that prevented some attendees from joining. Luckily, the whole presentation was recovered and can now be watched by everyone. To everyone who attended, we thank you for your patience and understanding and apologize for the tech issues. We are working with Zoom to ensure that these issues are resolved before future virtual lectures. Alff's talk focuses on the Washington DC area's connection to the development of the Northeast Corridor, and Union Station's shifting fortunes over the years. Whether you’re a frequent Amtrak or VRE rider or simply enjoy watching the trains pass through Alexandria, this video offers a great chance to learn more about the past, present, and future of passenger rail in the region. Finished watching the video, and want to keep learning about railroad history? Check out Dr. Alff's book, "The Northeast Corridor: The Trains, the People, the History, the Region." Good energy in the Hall, some great questions, and all the Exhibitioners were very engaging and super well-prepared. Do take some time out to tell us later what you liked or where we can do better in 2025. “Simple seven” key takeaways: 1. The utility and Telco sector has some great ideas on where we need to get to - how, will take more work - but that’s in train. 2. Current legislation takes no little navigation and we should work hard to make that simpler yet. 3. Innovation is widespread: adoption is the hard bit. 4. Training in our sector is in the foothills of seismic change to gain greater efficiencies. 5. Keep up the energy on internally collaborating, and externally maintain the trust that we have with Govt and our authorities to best effect. 6. Safety Assessments are not the future - it’s near and present work. 7. There are plenty of ways to get involved - but our Expert Practitioner Groups are a good way to start. As below, a fab day. ?? #utilities #Telecomms #water #electric #gas

Professor Ioni Lewis, Principal Research Fellow at QUT (Queensland University of Technology)'s CARRS-Q, is presenting a session at the iMOVE National R&D conference entitled, "Messaging and Technology: A most powerful partnership to enhance road safety". SESSION DESCRIPTION This presentation is an overview the important role that messaging and technology each play in optimising the effects of one another in the #roadsafety context. With advances in roadside technology enabling real-time messaging to road users, the opportunity to target messaging to influence on-road behaviour is greater than what has been possible in the past. While, in the case of advancing vehicle technology, messaging plays a crucial role in helping to raise public awareness of such technology, the role it will play in road safety, as well as enhancing the likely uptake of it into the future. EVENT DETAILS The iMOVE National R&D conference is taking place in Brisbane, on 23 and 24 October 2024. For more information on the conference, and to register, visit: https://lnkd.in/gKuRz-ub
