We’ve been discussing how to keep RVTs engaged and retained within your office –?let’s talk about engagement! Engage RVTs as the highly trained professionals that they are! Just veterinarians, RVTs are registered veterinary professionals who must fulfill their regulatory requirements to practice as an RVT. Did you know that RVTs can be delegated all areas of veterinary medicine, except making a diagnosis, determining the course of treatment, and performing surgery? Empowering your RVTs to work fully within their scope allows your veterinarians to focus on tasks they are exclusively trained to do. For example, RVTs can perform equine dental floats, obtain diagnostic images through MRI, CT, and ultrasounds (including pregnancy detection in beef cattle and small ruminants), conduct necropsies, perform artificial insemination, and apply rehabilitative techniques. By leveraging these skills, you can significantly enhance your practice’s efficiency and care quality. At the end of the day, RVTs are veterinary professionals that are essential to any practice. Ensuring they feel empowered and respected is not only the right thing to do, but also improves how your veterinary practice runs! #ABVTA #vettech #RVT #rvtlife #alberta #vetmed #vetmed #vetprofessionals #rvtcompensation #abpets #VetTECH #rvtcompensation #continuingeducation #professionaldevelopment #veterinarytraining #rvts #proudlyrvt #veterinarytechnologist #veterinaryjobs ##

I've been so lucky to be able to practice to my full scope for most of my career. Although duties/scope differs, RVTs are the colleagues of DVMs and we are working together as a team for the betterment of our patients. Once we embrace that concept, trust, patient care and job satisfaction improve immensely.

I really love all the talk these days about engagement of RVT's. Let's not wait for others to recognize or ensure we are empowered, let's simply stay, "Step aside and watch me...". Please have a look at our signature program, Mobilizing RVTs (BS Communication Strategies). I'd love to see the ABVTA participate in this program and really see this type of engagement in action. There are lots of clinics and teams and rockstar RVTs that are living this and crushing it! And the really great news...it's showing up in the profitability in the practices. Let's do this!

I can’t wait to see the day this finally happens. So far in 30 years, I’ve not seen techs used effectively as income-producing staff.

When RVT’s are used to their fullest extent, the engagement and professional reward is immense! Creating a win-win-win for the hospital, for the client and patient, and for the veterinary team.. These skills can be leveraged not just inside the hospital, but also through Virtual Care, reaching right into client’s homes for ease of access and for thorough follow ups or consults that bring incredible efficiencies.
