?? Homelessness Week: Raising Awareness and Driving Change ?? As we observe Homelessness Week, it’s important to reflect on the challenges faced by those experiencing homelessness and to renew our commitment to making a difference. At abrs, we believe that everyone deserves a safe and secure home. This week, we encourage everyone to engage in conversations about homelessness, educate ourselves and others about its root causes, and explore ways to contribute to local efforts that support those in need. Here’s how you can make a difference: Support Local Charities: Partner with organisations that provide vital services to people experiencing homelessness. Volunteer Your Time: Offer your skills and time to local shelters and community organisations. Spread Awareness: Share information about homelessness and advocate for change within your network. Every action, big or small, can contribute to building a more inclusive and supportive community. Let’s work together to address homelessness and make a positive impact on the lives of those in need. https://lnkd.in/g_8c-BFV #HomelessnessWeek #CommunitySupport #SocialImpact #abrs #MakeADifference #HousingForAll

Next Tuesday our Architectus team (Llewyn Andrew , Senlina Mayer, Shannon de Sousa, Declan Toon , John Snell , Lisa Herbohn and myself) will be sleeping out for homelessness to fundraise for Second Chance Programme. We would love your support from as little as the cost of your daily coffee, it will all go a long way. Should you wish to donate to support this cause: https://lnkd.in/gFqR_E_W A little bit about the sleepout: Not a day goes by where the acute issues of housing risk and homelessness are discussed. The high cost of living, housing affordability, domestic violence and impacted mental health are pushing more and more average Australian households into untenable housing instability. At the same time, billions of dollars are pledged by government and private charities to fix a problem that remains stubbornly persistent. So, what can we do to make a meaningful difference in this unfolding national disaster? Many small moves targeting those most at risk to support their transition to stable housing can make a profound difference to a person’s life. Our Sleepout for Homelessness campaign has been doing that by working in partnership with the Queensland-based volunteer-run charity Second Chance Programme. Many women and children are coping as best as they can under increasing threats to hang on to a place to call home, sometimes at risk to their lives. Second Chance Programme has been supporting women and children transitioning to safety. This targeted funding keeps women and children alive during what can be the most dangerous time. Every dollar donated goes to help women in need. We are talking about all women in all kinds of circumstances - support for no-income women in Australia without a Centrelink safety net; support for indigenous mothers, women escaping violence, women in the regions, and older women bringing their life back together. This No-woman-left-behind approach results in helping alleviate child poverty. Second Chance provides targeted funds into the Combined Women’s Refuge network and programs run by others that support women on their journey. Second Chance fills the gaps where mainstream funding doesn’t reach because Second Chance are on the ground and know the local context. They have been there for the long haul.

?? This week is Homelessness Week. We're in the midst of a housing crisis, but we know that ending homelessness is possible. Right now, over 122,000 people in Australia are without a home on any given night. This isn't just a statistic – it's a call to action. Homelessness is preventable and solvable. With safe, affordable housing, adequate incomes and the right support, homelessness can be rare, brief and once-off. This year, the Federal Government is releasing its 10-year National Housing and Homelessness Plan. For it to make a real difference, we need it to be ambitious, delivering the resources and reforms needed to end homelessness for good. We need homelessness action now. Join us in signing this petition by Homelessness Australia and Everybody's Home calling on Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to set an ambition to end homelessness in a decade: https://buff.ly/3OvUX8X #HomelessnessIsSolvable #HW2024

The Government’s first 100 days: progress on homelessness explained in 60 seconds. There's been progress on: ? Section 21 evictions set to be banned ? Planning system to be changed to help build more affordable homes ? Groups at higher risk of homelessness to be helped to get support. But... ?? We need clear targets for social housing-building. ?? Local councils need more funding to support people facing homelessness. ? We’re still waiting for details on the promised strategy to end homelessness. The verdict? They're making good progress, but with homelessness hitting new record highs, we need more urgent action. Help us push them to move quicker. The National Alliance to End Homelessness recently released the results of new public opinion poll about how Americans view homelessness. Of the many findings, direct service providers and nonprofit organizations are perceived to be among the most trusted to handle the work that builds solutions for homelessness, but there is a recognition that these organizations don't have enough resources. Given that homelessness in the United States is currently at the highest levels in the history of record keeping by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, organizations like CaringWorks are more critical than ever in implementing proven solutions to end homelessness. Read the summary of the opinion poll at https://rebrand.ly/rqcwyge, and learn how you can be part of the solution to end homelessness by supporting CaringWorks at caringworksinc.org. #endhomelessness #caringworks

Did you know we lead 4 unique projects in Wales? ?? Homelessness and housing need stem from different and multifaceted factors, requiring nuanced solutions rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. This is precisely why we've developed four distinct projects to tackle issues in Wales. Our 4 projects are: #Citadel, a volunteer-led project which supports people experiencing, or at risk of homelessness, to find and/or sustain their tenancies and establish a home. #Hosting for refugees and people seeking asylum who stay with local volunteer households for 3-6 months when they have no where else to go. #Ukraine, support for Ukrainians moving into the private rent sector in Wales, helping them navigate housing and overcome challenges. #FaithinAffordableHousing, which works with churches of all denominations to release surplus land or redundant buildings for the development of new social and genuinely affordable homes. Each year Homelessness Australia set a theme for Homelessness Week and this year it is ** Homelessness Action Now ** In the lead up to finalising our events program for Homelessness Week 2024, we have been considering what this theme could mean and how we can collectively and collaboratively create action. We also encourage our sector peers and allies to consider the same moving forward. Also, if you are a homelessness service provider in Western Australia and you are considering applying for funding for a Homelessness Week event, project or initiative through our Grant Program this year, keep this years theme in mind when defining your concept and vision for what you wish to host or collaborate with others to host. It's an important question to consider. #HomelessnessWeek #HomelessnessWeek2024 #HomelessnessWeekWA #HomelessnessWeekFunding #HomelessnessWeekGrantProgram
