Did I just blink?
First, I want to show appreciation to two of my mentors in the industry Michael Bellody and Brian S. Falconer, LUTCF. They have both been there for me every step of the way, and I am truly grateful for that.
Second, I just want to share a few pieces of advice for young advisors that I have learned over the past couple of years:
1. Be coachable.
Be open to constructive criticism. I'll be the first to admit, I was horrible on the phone when I started. One of the most important pieces of advice I received was to make each conversation a conversation. When you reach out to a client, ask them how their weeks going. Ask them if they have any exciting plans for the summer. Ask them when their child/children get out of school for summer. Don't jump straight into business. I get excited to call clients. These conversations will result in your client picking up your call on the second ring, rather than letting you go to voicemail.
2. Be a sponge.
I joined a team, Imperia Wealth Management, for a reason. You would think Mike, Brian, and my other mentors would be sick of my numerous questions after 2 years, yet every day they're happy to help and coach me. The importance of surrounding yourself with experience is drastic. Experience does not only apply to Capital Markets. Client relationships, networking opportunities, and utilizing COI's are a few examples. There's always room to grow/learn regardless of how long you have been in the industry.
3. Be yourself.
I promise that you won't know every answer to every question a client asks. The saying, "Fake it until you make it" ... throw it in the trash. Lean on your mentors when necessary, and clients will appreciate it. Take the extra hour before you respond to your client.
I can't wait for the future of IWM.
